Description
The structure and vivacity of a Barolo wine
The estate
In the 1960s Bruno and Marcello Ceretto took over the direction of their eponymous estate, founded in 1930 by their father, Riccardo, in Alba in Piedmont.
Following a trip to Burgundy, the two brothers wanted to quickly develop the estate to produce « crus » in the heart of this exceptional Italian terroir – a veritable revolution in a place where the notion of a cru had hitherto not existed. The selection among the best vineyards of great Italian wines in Barolo and Barbaresco is meticulous, to produce outstanding Langhe wines.
Respect for the tradition, the terroir and being alert to innovation is the philosophy of this Piedmont estaate. Between 1969 and 1982, four cellars were created and production expanded to include Moscato and a white wine.
Since the 1990s, the children of Bruno and Marcello Ceretto joined the estate and carried on its traditions to work 160 hectares of vines spread across four cellars, producing 17 different wines.
The vineyard
This Barolo Bricco Rocche 2019 from the Cerreto estate stems from the smallest vineyard in the appellation (1.46 hectares), which is exclusively owned by the Cerreto family. This terroir is the most prestigious and was once called La Serra, on the heights of the commune of Castiglione Falletto. Located at an altitude of 350 to 370 metres and facing south-east/south-west, this exceptional Barolo vineyard is made up mostly of sand, silt and clay.
The wine
The first Bricco Roche vintage of the Ceretto estate dates back to 1982.
