Description

Tasting characteristics and advice for the Volnay Village 2014 from Champy

Tasting

Appearance

The wine displays a bright ruby hue lifted by subtle garnet highlights.

Nose

The nose reveals remarkable aromatic intensity, opening on notes of red and black fruits (strawberry, raspberry, blackberry), with hints of violet and sweet spices.

Palate

The attack is fresh, followed by a full, rounded texture. The indulgent, velvety finish brings beautiful harmony to the whole.

Food and wine pairings

This Volnay Village 2014 pairs perfectly with white meats in sauce, poultry with cream and mushrooms, or a platter of aged cheeses.

Serving and cellaring

It is recommended to serve this Volnay Village 2014 at a temperature between 15 and 17°C.

An elegant, velvety Volnay from Côte de Beaune

The estate

Founded in 1720 in Beaune by Edme Champy, a cooper by trade, Champy is Burgundy’s oldest wine merchant house. After acquiring parcels during the French Revolution, it became a merchant-éleveur and today owns 21 hectares in Côte de Beaune. Owned by the Meurgey family since 1990, Champy stands out for its environmental commitment, with half of the vineyard certified organic and the other half HVE. The only in-town production site still operating in the heart of Beaune, it houses historic 15th-century cellars and the laboratory where Louis Pasteur conducted his research between 1863 and 1865.

The vineyard

The Volnay vineyard lies in Côte de Beaune, between Pommard and Meursault, on the Montagne du Chaignot. The plots enjoy an east to south-east exposure, at an altitude between 230 and 280 meters. The village of Volnay has 30 Premiers Crus but no Grand Cru.

Winemaking and aging

The Volnay Village 2014 is crafted using traditional Burgundian methods, allowing the character of the terroir and the finesse of Pinot Noir to be fully expressed.
