The estate
Founded in the 13th century, Château Citran is a historic estate in the Médoc region of Bordeaux, classified as a historical monument in 2012. After belonging to the Donissan family until 1832, then to Mr. Clauzel who redesigned the property, and to the Miailhe family (1945–1987), it was the Merlaut family who acquired this jewel in 1996. Today, this 90-hectare vineyard, with its medieval moats and park inhabited by peacocks, produces rich and structured wines. Under the direction of the Merlaut family, Château Citran maintains a perfect balance between respect for heritage and contemporary viticultural excellence.
The vineyard
Located in the Haut-Médoc, the vineyard of Château Citran covers 70 hectares of gravelly soils on star limestone and clay-limestone. This diversity of terroirs gives the wine its complexity and aromatic richness. The vines, averaging 35 years old, benefit from deep root systems that allow them to draw the essential nutrients needed to produce a great wine.
Blend
Cabernet Sauvignon (55%), Merlot (40%) and Cabernet Franc (5%).
