Château Cos Labory 2017

The 2017 Cos Labory is medium to deep garnet-purple in color and very fragrant and floral, with red and black fruits, some spices and earth, plus a waft of herbs. The palate is medium-bodied, soft, fine-grained and juicy, with good expression and length.

Not giving too much away on the nose, it's austere and closed on the attack but it opens up well, and will age. Fleshy cassis and brambled hedgerow fruits come through from the mid palate, and all is held together by firm slightly rustic tannins. Old school but good, from a lovely property that often flies under the radar.

Sweet tobacco and currants with cedar undertones here. It’s medium-bodied with a solid core of polished tannins and a long, flavorful finish. Shows focus and solidness. Drink after 2021.

The 2017 Cos Labory showed a bit of “funk” on the nose, which thankfully dissipates to reveal modest blackberry and tertiary aromas tinged with espresso. The palate is medium-bodied with supple tannins, quite lithe in the mouth although it does lack some grip and complexity on the finish. Not bad, but not exactly memorable either.

Medium-bodied, forward, fresh, and savory, with an herbal, spearmint, and tobacco leaf edge to the red fruits; while not mature, it is already easy to like and should deliver pleasure for at least the next 12 years or so. Drink from 2023-2035.

Deep purplish garnet with a lightening rim. Intense blueberry bouquet, followed by cassis and blackberry jelly. On the firm palate, fleshy extract and well-supporting freshness. Focused finish with plum skins and sloe juice. On the same level as last year!

Kunz barrel sample 18: fruity, velvety, dense, finely opulent bouquet, black berries, black cherries, liquorice, tobacco. Fruity, full palate with sweet fruit, fine tannins, broad structure, dark aromatics, long, aromatic finish.

The Cos Labory 2017 is medium to deep garnet-purple in color. It rolls out of the glass with delicate scents of kirsch, redcurrant, and raspberry leaves, plus suggestions of damp soil and cedar. Light to medium-bodied, the palate is firm and grainy with elegantly styled red berry flavors and a refreshing finish.

2017 is a reliable bottle, a wine with an easy-drinking character and a lovely fluidity on the palate. It is settling in gently.

Taut, fruity, fresh wine, lovely chew, a hint of graphite, long finish.

Dark color, normal intensity and slightly evolved. Moderately aromatic nose with fresh fruit. Soft palate, particularly fruity and flavorful, which gains body from mid-palate to finish, ending sappy with good length. Nice tannin. A fine success!
