Description
The freshness and aromatic richness of a red wine from Mercurey
The estate
Dating from the 18th century, Château de Chamirey has been owned by the Devillard family for three generations. A benchmark among the great wines of Burgundy, the estate reigns over a 37-hectare vineyard in the heart of the Mercurey appellation.
The vineyard
The 2019 "Clos du Roi" by Château de Chamirey is a Mercurey 1er cru wine that stems from a vineyard of just over 3 hectares. Facing south / south-west, this terroir gets its uniqueness from these four contiguous parcels, comprising vines planted in 1970 and 2002. The dark brown soil is composed of limestone.
Vinification and ageing
Harvested and sorted by hand, the grapes are completely destemmed. Vinification in vats. Cold pre-fermentation maceration for 4 to 6 days. Fermentation accompanied by punching of the cap, then post-fermentation maceration. During devatting, the free-run wine and the press wine are separated, including for the 16 months' ageing in oak barrels (30% of which are new), followed by 2 months in stainless steel tanks.
The blend
Pinot Noir (100%).
