The estate
Château de Chamirey is a wine estate in the Côte Chalonnaise, in Burgundy, whose château was built in the 18th century in Mercurey. The estate has belonged to the Devillard family since 1934 and is run today by Bertrand, Amaury and Aurore Devillard. The vineyard extends over 37 hectares, around half of which is classified Premier Cru, spread across six climats of the Mercurey appellation. The estate is distinguished by its ownership of two Premier Cru monopoles: La Mission for white wine and Les Ruelles for red.
The vineyard
The Mercurey 1er Cru “La Mission” Monopole comes from a 1.9240-hectare climat, planted entirely with Chardonnay and farmed as a monopole by Château de Chamirey. Located on a hilltop in the Mercurey appellation, above the Premier Cru Clos du Roi, this vineyard enjoys exposures ranging from east to south-west across its three plots. The clay-limestone and sandy soils, deep and well-draining, encourage even ripening of the grapes. The vines, planted between 1961 and 1997, deliver fine ripeness that is conducive to the expression of this terroir.
Vinification and ageing
For the Mercurey 1er Cru “La Mission” Monopole 2025, Château de Chamirey follows the method usually reserved for this cuvée: hand harvesting followed by rigorous sorting, pneumatic pressing, then cold settling of the juice overnight. The juice is then run by gravity into 228-litre Burgundy barrels, where fermentation and ageing take place over 12 months, with 15% new oak. The wine then spends a few more months in tank before bottling.
Grape variety
The Mercurey 1er Cru “La Mission” Monopole is made from Chardonnay.
