Description

Characteristics and tasting advice for the Marsannay Village "Les Favières" 2024 from Château de Marsannay

Tasting

Appearance

The wine reveals a deep, rich ruby color.

Nose

Highly intense, the nose displays a beautiful aromatic complexity, combining notes of red and black fruits such as cherry, raspberry, and wild strawberry. Subtle hints of undergrowth, dried flowers, spices, and delicate woody nuances follow, all underscored by a saline minerality.

Palate

The attack is generous and powerful, leading into a palate with a fine texture and particularly refined tannins. Showing great clarity and marked by lovely freshness, it stretches into a long, persistent finish with complex red fruit aromas, delicate spices, and a minerality typical of its terroir.

Food and wine pairings

This red wine pairs beautifully with richly flavored meats such as a fine cut of beef or game, served with rich sauces. Thanks to the freshness of this vintage, it also perfectly complements quality poultry, such as free-range chicken with mustard or a light cream sauce, as well as fine Burgundian charcuterie.

Serving and cellaring

The Marsannay Village "Les Favières" 2024 offers excellent aging potential and can be cellared until around 2034. It is recommended to let it rest for two to three years after harvest to allow its tannic structure to fully integrate.

The purity and freshness of a great Burgundy red wine

The estate

Established in 1990, the Château de Marsannay is a key figure in Burgundy, located at the gates of Dijon. Overseeing a 40-hectare vineyard, including 28 hectares on the finest terroirs of the appellation, the estate has undergone a true qualitative revival since its acquisition in 2012 by Olivier Halley. Now certified organic, the property stands out for its rigorous agroecological approach and its commitment to vinifying its many climats separately, thus offering wines that express the full richness of their terroirs with great precision.

The vineyard

The Les Favières climat represents one of the most complex terroirs of the Marsannay appellation. The estate cultivates approximately 0.7 hectares of vines spread across three plots at the top of the slope, benefiting from an ideal east and southeast exposure, between 280 and 330 meters in altitude. The soils, composed of entroques limestone, marl, and glacial gravel, provide excellent drainage while retaining valuable moisture. The vineyard is managed using advanced agroecological methods, including sap flow-respecting pruning and horse plowing.

The vintage

The year 2024 was marked by particularly extreme climatic conditions. Spring was characterized by relentless rainfall leading to strong mildew pressure, along with localized hail episodes. The highly irregular flowering caused coulure and millerandage, drastically reducing yields. Fortunately, a radical change in weather in August, bringing sunshine and dry conditions, helped save the harvest. The harvest, spread from late August to late September, delivered berries with optimal phenolic ripeness.

Winemaking and aging

The production of the Marsannay Village "Les Favières" 2024 is based on a low-intervention philosophy. After manual harvesting requiring meticulous sorting to retain only the healthiest berries, the grapes are vinified separately to respect the identity of the climat. The estate favors gentle methods, limiting filtration as much as possible in order to preserve the full purity and complexity of the fruit during aging.
