Description
The concentration and finesse of a red wine from Margaux
The estate
Located at the heart of the Margaux appellation, Château Ferrière was recognised as a 3rd Grand Cru Classé in 1855 during the universal exhibition in Paris. Claire Merlaut is the second generation of female owners at this Grand Cru Classé.
The vineyard
The Château Ferrière vineyard covers a 24-hectare surface. 95% of the vines are located on the Margaux plateau, at the heart of the appellation, which is made up of deep gravel upon limestone marls. A rigorous mass selection is carried out from a third of the vineyard, which dates from the 1950s, to conserve the biodiversity of the former grape varieties (Petit Verdot, Cabernet Franc). Château Ferrière was certified in Organic Farming (AB) in 2015 and in biodynamics in 2018 (Demeter and Biodyvin).
Winemaking and ageing
Plot-based winemaking. Alcoholic fermentation with natural yeasts. A pump-over of half a volume every day for gentle extraction. 3 weeks of maceration. Winemaking at temperatures below 25 degrees. Ageing lasts 18 months (40% in new barrels, 40% in barrels of one previous wine, 20% in TAVA amphorae).
Blend
The 2020 Château Ferrière is made of a blend of Cabernet Sauvignon (68%), Merlot (28%), Petit Verdot (3%) and Cabernet Franc (2%).
Tasting
The 2020 Château Ferrière seduces with its concentration, its elegance and its tannins of great finesse.
