Château Gazin 2020

Supple and juicy, but still quite tight in terms of texture. A little reserved perhaps, the coiled and muscular mid-palate stops some of the push from the fruit which is really well defined with a crystalline aspect to it. Real purity and freshness, tannins have an appealing grip with a salty, cola, liquorice, dark chocolate and coffee powder edge to them. Lots of nuance and complexity.

Lovely texture to this Pomerol. Fine velvety tannins with plum, walnut and crushed stone character. Savory finish. Needs time to soften. Very classy and structured, yet so refined. 91.6% merlot and 8.4% cabernet sauvignon. Try after 2025.

Tasted blind. Black core with a purplish rim. Fragrant, with fresh dark fruit and a mineral/stony character. A touch leafy on the palate yet with plenty of freshness and very fine tannins. Juicy as well as structured. Long and elegant. (JH)

The 2020 Gazin is a wine of total precision and class. Vibrant, with tremendous nuance, the 2020 is so impressive. Dark red cherry, iron, tobacco, white pepper and crushed flowers abound. The 2020 is a standout Gazin.

Violets and roses are in full bloom here before getting to all of its beautiful, ripe, lush, silky, vibrant cherries, red plums, cocoa and truffle. Medium-bodied, elegant, silky and vibrant, there is good energy, length and refinement in the mid-palate that carries all the way through to the finish. Drink from 2025-2047.

Confit blackberry, mint, plus a light balsamic herbal savoriness, pepper, damp asphalt. Lovely freshness to the fruit with real juiciness and a pronounced acid spine; balanced, textured, crumbly‑grainy tannins aren’t completely free of green tones, but are melded into the fruit; good structure.

I continue to absolutely love the wines from this Pomerol château, and their Grand Vin always brings a richness and depth that make it a joy to drink. Coming from a larger vineyard near Petrus, La Fleur Petrus, and Le Gay, the dense purple hue of the 2020 Château Gazin is followed by a rocking bouquet of ripe black cherries, currants, melted chocolate, roasted herbs, and earth. Full-bodied, deep, opulent, and concentrated, give this gorgeous 2020 4–6 years of bottle age and enjoy over the following 25+.

Delicate bouquet, black-berried contours, summer truffle, dark graphite and elderberry jelly. On the straight-lined palate with a soft texture, granular extract depth and supportive terroir spice, compact body. In the focused finish, wild cherry, juniper and licorice. A truly great Gazin that requires patience and reminds me of the 2009!

A fairly serious Pomerol, but then Gazin always is: an undeniably grown-up wine with muscular tannins, plenty of ageing potential, sleek dark fruits, charcoal, dark chocolate, espresso. This has waves of complexity; it grips the palate, with a touch of slate-like minerality as it opens, adding texture. Yield of 35 hl/ha. First time with no Cabernet Franc in the blend.

Deep garnet-purple in color, the 2020 Gazin strides confidently out of the glass with classic notes of baked black plums, blueberry compote, and tilled soil, followed by earthy nuances of mossy tree bark, tar, and black truffles. The full-bodied palate is laden with muscular black fruits, framed by velvety tannins and seamless freshness, finishing on a lingering fragrant earth note.

The generous, athletic character of 2020 suits Gazin’s classically upright stature well. The nose is still discreet, releasing notes of a basket of black fruits and sweet spices. The palate is rich and broad, with fine tension brought by the Cabernet Sauvignon. Cellaring potential of at least 20 years

On the nose, vibrant sweet-and-sour bursts of blueberries. On the palate, a saline minerality and the crunch of wild berries, with slightly bitter tannins that have yet to develop the majestic charm predicted for them in a few years’ time.

Dark, intense, and beautiful color. Moderately aromatic nose with ripe fruit, subtle and slightly truffled. Delicate on the attack, silky at mid-palate, then racy like a wine from Graves, it melts on a juicy, delicate palate without leaving a tannic imprint. Fragrant finish. An utterly charming whole.

93–95. Barrel Sample. This wine is dark with dense tannins and a solid texture. Along with the richness, there is the potential of massive black fruit weight that will give a wine of power and concentration.
