Vinum

As in the previous vintage, one of the best value wines in Saint-Émilion: a cool, complex nose with a mineral edge, red-fruited and floral, with cherry and blood orange aromas; a focused palate with not a gram of fat yet plenty of drive, outstanding tannin quality, as if carved from stone, lively acidity, great tension and a charming elegance; a lofty finish, with a saline, spicy finale.

Decanter

Gorgeously alive blackcurrant aromas on the nose, so pure and expressive. Silky, a little sharp, the acidity is really the focus here with crystalline strawberry fruit. A bit tight, but the tension really drives the flavours forward with a sleek outline. So smooth, the tannins are excellent, I love the very softly chalky, but also slightly chewy aspect here all the while keeping that quite strict, straight, citrus-edged acidity. It’s a live wire. I like it a lot, needs time, but there’s energy and focus for sure. Piercing, mouthwatering, but ends crisp and grippy. 3.50pH. A yield of 40hl/ha.

Black cherries, plums, violets, licorice, espresso, caramel, black raspberries, licorice, and a hint of mint pop in the nose. Creamy, opulent, sweet, powerful, and also fragrant, fresh, and light on its feet. The palate is drenched in fruits, accompanied by a mineral essence that adds in the length, and the vibrancy to the long, intense finish. One of the wines of the vintage, this is in contention for the best vintage ever produced in the history of Larcis Ducasse. The wine blends 90% Merlot with 10% Cabernet Franc. 13.8% ABV. 3.5 pH. Harvesting took place September 10 - September 19. Yields were 40 hectoliters per hectare. Aging is taking place in a combination of New, French oak barrels, 500 liter barrels, and foundres. Drink from 2030-2065. 98-100 Pts

Right at the top of the vintage here, full of character and depth, clear intensity and acidity, has the sword-like limestone touch of the vintage but so well shaped and handled. Toasted grilled campfire and bilberry and cassis puree, great quality, rosemary, redcurrant, liquorice. 3.5 pH. Harvest September 10 to 28. 50% new oak.

Freshness and ripeness make excellent partners when they don’t work against each other! At Larcis Ducasse, for example, they form a formidable duo or, in a more elegant vein, an obvious match! You find yourself daring to use terms such as “

Deep, almost black color with purple highlights. An intense, fruity nose with notes of fresh black fruits. It becomes more complex when the glass is swirled. Precise on the attack, flavorful through the mid-palate, with a fine, silky richness coating the palate, the wine unfolds as complete, juicy and noble, leading into a long, complex finish with deep aromas. Superb! I hadn’t tasted it like this since the 2016 vintage. Blend: 90% Merlot, 10% Cabernet Franc. Alcohol: 14%.

Description

Tasting Notes and Serving Advice for Château Larcis Ducasse 2025

Tasting

Nose
The aromatic bouquet is particularly appealing and well-balanced, dominated by intense notes of black fruits such as cherry, plum, and blackberry. Delicate floral touches intertwine with spicy nuances and a minerality reminiscent of graphite.

Palate
On the palate, this wine reveals a silky and refined texture, supported by a medium to full body. The tannic structure, marked by great elegance, is complemented by fine acidity, delivering remarkable freshness. The estate’s mineral signature emerges with hints of crushed stone and a saline touch, leading to a long, perfectly structured finish.

Food and Wine Pairings
This great wine pairs ideally with roasted, braised, or grilled meats, whether beef, veal, pork, lamb, or poultry. It also enhances dishes rich in umami, particularly those featuring mushrooms or truffles, as well as Asian cuisine with savory spices. Meaty fish such as tuna or salmon, pasta dishes, and a selection of hard or soft cheeses also make excellent pairings.

Serving and Cellaring
To fully appreciate Château Larcis Ducasse 2025, serve at around 15.5°C, with brief aeration or light decanting to release its aromas while preserving its freshness. With outstanding aging potential, this vintage will evolve beautifully through to around 2050.

The Aromatic Expression and Freshness of a Great Saint-Émilion Terroir

The Estate
Although vine growing on these lands dates back to the sixteenth century, the modern era of Château Larcis Ducasse truly began in 1893 when it was acquired by Henri Raba. Today, this Premier Grand Cru Classé from the Right Bank of Bordeaux is managed by the Gratiot-Attmane family, direct descendants of the Raba family, ensuring more than 130 years of family continuity. Under the direction of estate manager and winemaker David Suire, the property stands out for its commitment to organic farming and the enhancement of its exceptional terroir.

The Vineyard
Covering 11.34 hectares, of which 10.50 hectares are in production, the vineyard lies on the south-facing slopes of the Côte Pavie, in the heart of the Saint-Émilion appellation. The vines, averaging 38 years of age, benefit from a complex, layered terroir combining clay, limestone, and chalk. Natural underground springs nourish the soil, creating an ideal contrast between the sunlit slopes and the coolness of the depths. Planting density ranges from 6,000 to 8,888 vines per hectare, with controlled yields of 40 hectoliters per hectare. The entire estate has been farmed organically since 2005.

The Vintage
The harvest was meticulously planned to pick the grapes at optimal ripeness. Cabernet Franc clusters were harvested in several passes on September 10, 11, 12, 13, 17, and 18, while Merlot was picked on September 17 and 18.

Winemaking and Aging
In the winery, the grapes are handled with great care using gravity-fed facilities. Whole-berry fermentation takes place in traditional concrete vats for 25 to 28 days, with manual punch-downs and no pumping-over to preserve the structure. Malolactic fermentation then occurs in barrels. The aging of this Right Bank wine from Bordeaux lasts between 16 and 18 months, carried out in French oak barrels (50% new), 500-liter demi-muids, and large oak casks. Alcohol: 13.8% vol.

Grape Variety
The blend of Château Larcis Ducasse 2025 consists of 90% Merlot and 10% Cabernet Franc.
