Description
An elegant and structured Grand Cru Classe of Margaux
The estate
Since 1616 Château Marquis d’Alesme has reigned over an exceptional terroir in Margaux in the heart of the Bordeaux region. Both exotic and classic, Château Marquis d'Alesme is a property representing a great culture and passion for winemaking.
The vineyard
Château Marquis d'Alesme cultivates a 15-hectare vineyard plot by plot. The vineyard, like a garden, is managed with the utmost care through the craftsmanship of the Château Marquis d'Alesme team. The vines are planted in clay-limestone, gravelly siliceous and clayey soils.
The vintage
While the heavy rainfall in winter replenished the water reserves of the vineyard, the mild weather during the spring favoured the development of the vines. The particularly hot summer did not damage the vines, thanks to the sufficient water reserves and meticulous care given to the plots by the estate teams. The work of the vineyard teams included the addition of mulch between the vine rows, reduced ploughing of the soil and limited leaf stripping in order to protect the clusters from the sun. The stormy days in mid-August favoured the continuation of the vines' vegetative cycle. The vines enjoyed perfect sanitary conditions until the harvest.
The ageing
The Château Marquis d'Alesme 2020 was aged, from the end of its alcoholic fermentation to its bottling, in 50% new oak barrels and 50% barrels of one previous wine. The barrels were sourced from the great French coopers of Belleme, Moselle, Allier, Rambouillet.
The blend
The Château Marquis d´Alesme 2020 is made from a blend of Cabernet Sauvignon (63%), Merlot (30%), Petit Verdot (5%) and Cabernet Franc (2%).
