Description
The estate
Located at the entrance of the Pauillac appellation, Château Peyrabon is nestled in a green haven. Owned by Patrick Bernard since 1998, Château Peyrabon has undergone major work, both in the vineyard and the cellar, in order to reorganise and modernise the estate. Château Peyrabon is a very fine Haut-Médoc reference, producing elegant and powerful wines which offer a promising and superb ageing potential.
The vineyard
Near the village of Saint-Sauveur in the Médoc region, Château Peyrabon is a standard reference among fine Haut-Médoc wines. The vineyard spreads across 42 hectares, which are 24 years old on average and are planted on sandy gravel with a clay subsoil. 5 hectares of the vineyard rest on clay-limestone soils.
Vinification and ageing
The grapes are sorted in whole bunches and then destemmed on a vibrating table for the manual harvest. The vinification is carried out in temperature-controlled concrete and stainless steel tanks, followed by pumping over, punching down and adapted delestage in order to favour a gentle extraction. Maceration for 19 to 24 days. Malolactic fermentation partly in barrels. The wine is aged for 14 months in barrels (30% new oak) and then fined in vats.
The blend
Cabernet Sauvignon (60%)
Merlot (40%)
The tasting
Nose
Fresh and elegant, the nose combines fruity fragrances (redcurrant, plum) and green grass with woody notes.
Palate
Relatively full-bodied, the palate is seduced by this wine’s fine tannins, its beautiful acidity and its rich and persistent finish.
