Description
Characteristics and tasting notes of the Vin de France "Argile" 2023 from Clos Constantin
Tasting
Color
The glass reveals a magnificent golden hue, showcasing beautiful clarity and remarkable visual depth.
Nose
The aromatic bouquet opens with fruity notes of apricot and pear, delicately intertwined with nuances of white flowers and subtle herbaceous touches. The complexity of its aromas evolves and intensifies as the wine breathes.
Palate
The palate offers a perfect balance between refreshing acidity, moderate minerality, and rounded fruitiness. The long, persistent finish reveals delicate notes of honey and white flowers.
Food and wine pairing
Ideal with poultry such as chicken or turkey, this white wine also pairs wonderfully with seafood, oysters, or fish prepared with a butter sauce. It will also enhance hard cheeses such as an aged Comté or Gruyère, as well as vegetable-based dishes.
Service and storage
To fully appreciate the "Argile" 2023 vintage, it is recommended to serve it slightly chilled, at a temperature between 8 and 12°C. This wine can be enjoyed now, but has the structure needed to evolve favorably in the bottle until around 2028.
The singular expression of a great white wine from the Languedoc
The estate
Officially founded in 2017, Clos Constantin is a wine estate located in Argelliers, in the south of France. At the helm of this property, Pierre Halley, drawing on his international experience, and Samuel Durand, a former sommelier, combine their expertise to elevate a family heritage. Committed to a strong environmental approach, the estate stands out for its organic and biodynamic viticulture. Clos Constantin has quickly established itself as a rising reference thanks to its minimal-intervention approach, revealing with precision and elegance the full richness of its terroirs.
The vineyard
The grapes for this cuvée come from the site known as Les Champs de Traversiers, a plot overlooking the Pic Saint-Loup at an altitude ranging between 200 and 230 meters. This clay-limestone terroir benefits from a unique microclimate, enjoying the freshness of the Larzac plateau and a significant temperature swing between day and night. The vineyard, with vines averaging 35 years of age, is cultivated according to the principles of organic and biodynamic farming. This great Vin de France perfectly illustrates the harmony between a grape variety atypical for the area and an exceptional terroir.
The vintage
The year 2023 was marked by mild and warm weather conditions. Generous sunshine, combined with adequate rainfall, helped avoid any water stress. These ideal conditions favored a slow, optimal ripening of the berries, ensuring beautiful concentration while preserving essential freshness.
Winemaking and aging
The estate's philosophy is based on minimal intervention in the cellar. For the "Argile" 2023 cuvée, fermentation is triggered naturally through indigenous yeasts. Depending on the needs, pressing can be direct or preceded by skin maceration. The wine then undergoes extended aging on the lees, ranging from 6 to 24 months, carried out in various vessels such as stainless steel tanks, concrete tanks, or oak barrels, to add complexity and texture.
Grape variety
Chenin Blanc (100%).
