Description
Characteristics and Tasting Notes for the Bourgogne Aligoté 2022 Comte Armand
Tasting
Colour
Pale yellow in hue, this wine is enhanced by delicate green highlights.
Nose
The aromatic bouquet proves complex and expressive. It exudes notes of citrus fruit, such as grapefruit, and green apple, harmoniously blended with touches of pear, white flowers, acacia honey, and a lovely mineral, chalky imprint.
Palate
The palate seduces with its perfect balance between vivacity and roundness. Fresh and mineral, it offers a lovely fluid texture supported by a lively acidity. The finish, remarkably long, unfolds into delicious notes of white peach and quince, along with a persistent minerality.
Food and Wine Pairing
Ideal as an aperitif, traditionally enjoyed as a Kir or on its own, this white wine pairs wonderfully with seafood, oysters, or scallops, as well as with grilled or poached white fish. It also pairs very well with fresh vegetable salads, matured goat cheeses, or regional specialities such as cheese gougères, snail puff pastries, and parsley-flecked ham.
Service and Storage
This Bourgogne Aligoté 2022 can be enjoyed now, but its fine structure allows it to age favourably in the cellar until around 2032.
Other Characteristics
This wine has a moderate alcohol content, generally between 12 and 13%.
The Freshness and Mineral Complexity of a White Burgundy from Domaine Comte Armand
The Estate
The history of Domaine Comte Armand truly began in 1828, when the eponymous family acquired the famous Clos des Épeneaux. Located in France, in the heart of Burgundy, the estate now spans a 9-hectare vineyard. Currently led by Olivier Armand, the estate stands out for its deep commitment to biodynamic viticulture and respect for biodiversity. With the arrival of Jane Eyre as technical director, Domaine Comte Armand continues to produce authentic wines that combine tradition with environmental awareness, while keeping yields low to prioritise quality.
The Vineyard
This Bourgogne wine is crafted from a blend of two complementary terroirs. On one hand, young vines around ten years old located in Volnay, which bring vitality and freshness. On the other hand, very old golden Aligoté vines planted around 1932 in Meursault, rooted in limestone soils, which offer depth and concentration. The vineyard has been cultivated according to biodynamic principles for over thirty years, without any herbicides. The soils are worked both mechanically and by hand, while biodiversity is encouraged by the presence of fruit trees and beehives within the plots.
Winemaking and Aging
The making of this Bourgogne Aligoté 2022 begins with whole-cluster pressing, followed by a natural settling period of around 24 hours. Fermentation starts spontaneously through indigenous yeasts, followed by a complete malolactic fermentation. The wine is aged on fine lees for 12 months in 500-litre wooden barrels, two to four years old, in order to preserve the expression of the terroir without imparting excessive oak character. Finally, the wine undergoes fining with casein and bentonite, as well as light filtration, before bottling.
