Description
Characteristics and tasting notes of the Chambolle-Musigny 1er Cru 2020 from Domaine Comte Georges de Vogue
Tasting
Appearance
The wine displays a translucent ruby colour, both bright and luminous.
Nose
Remarkably pure, the nose reveals a complex bouquet of black and red fruits such as black cherry, strawberry and redcurrant. It then opens up to delicate floral notes of peony and violet, enhanced by subtle hints of citrus, sweet spices and a mineral thread.
Palate
On the palate, the wine offers a full and ultra-elegant substance, without any heaviness. The texture stands out through its fine, grainy tannins, supported by a refreshing acidity that carries the wine through to a long finish with mineral accents.
Food and wine pairings
This red wine harmonises beautifully with refined dishes. It will pair perfectly with roasted poultry, such as pigeon or guinea fowl, served with wild mushrooms and root vegetables. It will also enhance tender red meats such as beef fillet with light sauces, or noble firm-fleshed fish such as turbot. For cheese, an aged brie or a dry goat's cheese will make an excellent match.
Serving and cellaring
To fully appreciate this Chambolle-Musigny 1er Cru 2020, it is advisable to serve it at a temperature of 15 to 16°C. Decanting for about an hour is recommended in its youth to release its aromas. With its beautiful structure, this wine can be enjoyed from 2025 and will continue to evolve favourably until around 2035.
The elegance and purity of a great Burgundy wine crafted by Domaine Comte Georges de Vogue
The estate
While the winegrowing history of these lands dates back to 1450, the creation of Domaine Comte Georges de Vogue under its current identity dates from 1925. Located in Burgundy, this estate has remained within the same family for twenty generations. Today, Claire de Causans and Marie de Ladoucette are its owners. As the main holder of the Musigny Grand Cru, the estate stands out through its respectful viticulture and singular philosophy, deliberately declassifying its young vines to guarantee the absolute excellence of its cuvées.
The vineyard
This wine comes from the Chambolle-Musigny appellation, renowned for its rich, well-draining clay-limestone soils. The singularity of this cuvée lies in its parcel origin: it is exclusively produced from young vines of less than twenty-five years old, located on the prestigious terroir of the Musigny Grand Cru. Here, the estate practises non-certified organic viticulture, with limited yields to promote concentration and the authentic expression of the grapes.
The vintage
The 2020 vintage offered ideal conditions, allowing for berries of great purity with optimal phenolic ripeness. This vintage, which is also the last vinified by historic cellar master François Millet, is distinguished by modest yields fostering fine concentration while preserving a delicate, fresh and perfectly balanced structure.
Winemaking and ageing
The grapes destined for the Chambolle-Musigny 1er Cru 2020 are hand-harvested and then meticulously sorted. Traditional Burgundian vinification favours a gentle extraction in vats in order to preserve the elegance of the fruit. The wine is then aged in French oak barrels, with measured use of new wood to frame the substance without ever dominating it.
