Description
Characteristics and tasting notes of the Pouilly-Fuissé 1er Cru 2024 from Domaine Cordier Père et Fils
Tasting
Appearance
The glass reveals a pale yellow to light golden yellow hue, enhanced by subtle greenish highlights.
Nose
Highly intense, the nose combines a crisp freshness with rich complexity. It releases aromas of ripe yellow fruits and citrus, harmoniously interwoven with notes of brown butter, clove and a smoky touch reminiscent of gunflint.
Palate
Ample and nuanced, the palate seduces with its creamy texture and indulgent flavours of yellow apple, apricot, vanilla and toasted nuts. Everything is perfectly balanced by a refreshing acidity that carries the wine towards a long, harmonious and deeply mineral finish.
Food and wine pairings
This great white wine pairs wonderfully with fine poached or pan-seared fish served with a beurre blanc sauce, seafood, or white meats in sauce, such as poultry with morel mushrooms.
Serving and cellaring
For optimal tasting, this wine is best served between 10 and 13°C, after light decanting or an hour of aeration in the glass. This Pouilly-Fuissé 1er Cru 2024 can be enjoyed now, but will continue to develop in the cellar until around 2036.
A generous and lively Pouilly-Fuissé wine
The estate
Founded in 1945 in Fuissé, Domaine Cordier Père et Fils is an iconic figure of Burgundy in France, located at the heart of the Mâconnais. Now led by Christophe Cordier, this family-run estate spans 31.5 hectares spread across more than a hundred parcels. Renowned for its approach combining time-honoured techniques and cutting-edge equipment, the estate stands out for its deep environmental commitment, crowned by organic farming certification from the 2024 harvest onwards. Its wines, of great precision, rival the most prestigious crus of the region.
The vineyard
This Pouilly-Fuissé comes from the prestigious Vers les Cras climat, elevated to Premier Cru status in 2020. Located on the border between Fuissé and Solutré, this small 0.89-hectare east-facing parcel rests on white limestone soils. The very old vines, 85 years of age, are cultivated with extremely low yields of 20 hectolitres per hectare. The soil is worked with horses, in the utmost respect for biodiversity and biodynamic principles.
Winemaking and aging
The manual harvest, carried out at high maturity, is followed by a gentle whole-bunch pressing. The juices of this Pouilly-Fuissé 1er Cru 2024 are moved by gravity for natural fermentations with indigenous yeasts. Ageing takes place on full lees for about a year in barrels (30% of which are new oak), before refining in stainless steel tanks. The wine is bottled by gravity, without fining and with a very light filtration.
Grape variety
100% Chardonnay.
