Description
Characteristics and Tasting Notes for Lirac Rouge "La Dame Rousse" 2022 Domaine de la Mordorée
Tasting
Colour
The colour reveals a vibrant red hue with iridescent glints, recalling the brilliance of a translucent ruby.
Nose
The aromatic bouquet reveals great complexity. It first expresses scents of red and stone fruits, blending wild strawberry, raspberry, cherry, redcurrant and apricot, enhanced by a touch of pink grapefruit. With aeration, delicate floral notes of orange blossom and rose emerge, supported by a minerality reminiscent of white chalk, along with subtle herbaceous touches of garrigue and mint.
Palate
The attack on the palate is marked by freshness, opening the way to a round, harmonious texture with lovely breadth. There is a remarkable balance between lively acidity, mineral tension and fruit richness. The texture is silky and enveloping, structured by beautifully fine tannins. The finish, particularly long and precise, lingers on refreshing mineral notes.
Food and wine pairing
This wine proves highly versatile at the table. It pairs wonderfully with charcuterie boards, white meats such as roast poultry, or grilled red meats. It also goes very well with spicy Asian-inspired dishes, delicately prepared vegetables, sea fish such as red mullet, and sheep's or goat's cheeses with moderate ageing.
Service and storage
The lingering finish and lovely mineral tension of Lirac Rouge "La Dame Rousse" 2022 suggest an interesting ageing potential for this cuvée.
The expression of a singular terroir in the Rhône Valley by Domaine de la Mordorée
The estate
Founded in 1986 by Francis Delorme and his son Christophe, Domaine de la Mordorée has established itself as a major producer in the southern Rhône Valley. Located in Tavel, this family estate is now run by Madeleine and Ambre Delorme. Spanning around sixty hectares, the estate stands out for its deep environmental commitment. This philosophy is reflected in organic farming certification since 2013 and Demeter biodynamic certification since 2020, guaranteeing wines of great purity.
The vineyard
The vineyard spans multiple plots spread across several communes, including the Lirac appellation. The vines thrive on a mosaic of three terroirs: rolled pebble soils, flat white limestone and sandy soils. The estate places great importance on biodiversity, illustrated by an agroforestry project and a partnership with the Ligue de Protection des Oiseaux (Bird Protection League). Harvesting is entirely done by hand to select the best bunches, with limited yields to concentrate quality.
The vintage
The year 2022 began with a mild, dry winter. Warmth settled in early across the region, favouring strong vegetative growth in spring. Summer was then marked by a severe drought, allowing for optimal sugar concentration in the berries. Finally, strategic rainfall in mid-August brought the water needed to preserve natural acidity and ensure perfect ripening of the grapes.
Winemaking and ageing
The making of Lirac Rouge "La Dame Rousse" 2022 relies on meticulous work. During vinification, a selective extraction profile is applied to preserve all the finesse and natural balance of the berries.
