The Vibrant Expression of a Great Charmes-Chambertin Wine

The Estate

Founded in 1999 by Jean-Charles and Nathalie Boisset, Domaine de la Vougeraie brings together the family's viticultural jewels in the heart of Burgundy. Located in Premeaux-Prissey, the estate today spans more than 52 hectares spread across the Côte de Nuits and the Côte de Beaune. Currently led by Jean-Charles Boisset, with Sylvie Poillot as general manager, the estate stands out for its pioneering commitment to organic and biodynamic farming. It produces wines renowned for their purity, precisely reflecting the richness of their terroirs of origin.

The Vineyard

The Charmes-Chambertin appellation rests on an exceptional terroir located in the commune of Gevrey-Chambertin. The Mazoyères plot benefits from a unique microclimate, partially sheltered by limestone outcrops from a former quarry. The vines thrive on brown soils mixed with alluvium on the upper slopes, and on clay-limestone soils lower down the hillside, resting on a bedrock rich in marine fossils. The estate cultivates these lands according to the principles of biodynamics, strictly limiting yields and favouring horse ploughing to preserve the vitality of the Burgundian soils. This respectful approach reveals the full authenticity of Burgundy.

The Vintage

The year 2022 was marked by summer weather conditions that were at times stormy, characterised by heat and water stress. Despite these challenges, the ripening period was particularly favourable, allowing for an early harvest from the end of August. The harvested grapes proved to be in impeccable health, yielding generous quantities. This sun-drenched vintage results in remarkable balance, great freshness and exceptional purity of fruit.

Winemaking and Aging

The grapes are hand-harvested into small perforated crates. The winemaking of the Charmes-Chambertin Grand Cru "Les Mazoyères" 2022 includes a proportion of whole clusters and begins with a cold pre-fermentation maceration in wooden vats, driven by indigenous yeasts. Manual punching down and regular pumping over accompany fermentation. After gentle vertical pressing, the wine is transferred into barrel by gravity. Aging takes place over a period of 12 to 18 months in oak barrels from the Cîteaux forest, of which around 20% is new oak. Bottling is carried out by gravity, following the lunar calendar.

Grape Variety

100% Pinot Noir.
