Description
Characteristics and Tasting Notes for the Charmes-Chambertin Grand Cru "Les Mazoyères" 2023
Tasting
Colour
This wine reveals a deep ruby hue, enhanced by vivid violet highlights that reflect its beautiful concentration.
Nose
The bouquet is intense and remarkably complex. It opens with aromas of black fruits such as cherry, ripe plum and stone fruit, harmoniously blended with floral notes of violet. Subtle mineral, chalky and truffle nuances enrich this aromatic palette, which evolves beautifully with aeration.
Palate
The attack is fresh, precise and balanced, carried by lovely acidity. The mid-palate offers generous substance, revealing black fruits alongside an earthy, mineral dimension. The whole is supported by fine, silky and velvety tannins. The finish, remarkably long, stretches out with mineral purity and a delicate saline touch.
Food and Wine Pairing
This red wine pairs wonderfully with rich, flavourful meat dishes. It will beautifully complement a coq au vin, a capon with porcini mushrooms or a lamb mignon with herbs.
Service and Storage
For optimal tasting, we recommend serving this wine at a temperature between 14 and 16°C. Decanting for thirty minutes to two hours before serving will help release its full aromatic complexity. This Grand Cru also boasts a structure that gives it remarkable cellaring potential.
The Authentic Expression of a Grand Cru from Burgundy by the Domaine de la Vougeraie
The Estate
Officially founded in 1999, the Domaine de la Vougeraie is an unmissable reference. Located in Burgundy, this estate spans a vineyard spread across the Côte de Nuits and the Côte de Beaune. Deeply committed to respecting living ecosystems, the estate stands out for its strong dedication to organic farming and biodynamics, seeking to reveal the purity of its terroirs through holistic and demanding viticultural practices.
The Vineyard
The "Les Mazoyères" plot, located within the Charmes-Chambertin appellation, enjoys a privileged mid-slope location with an east-facing exposure. This terroir benefits from ideal morning sunlight. The well-drained, stony soils consist of a fine layer of chalky earth scattered with pebbles, resting on a deep bedrock of hard limestone.
The Vintage
The year 2023 was marked by warm and particularly stable weather conditions throughout the growing cycle. This mild climate allowed for a generous harvest and berries of optimal ripeness, offering remarkable concentration while preserving the grape variety's characteristic freshness.
Winemaking and Aging
After rigorous sorting in the vineyard and then in the cellar, the grapes are carefully placed in vats. Vinification begins with a cold pre-fermentation maceration. Fermentation then starts naturally thanks to indigenous yeasts. After gentle vertical pressing, the wine is aged in French oak barrels.
