Description
Characteristics and tasting notes of the Savagnin "En Quatre Vis" 2024 Domaine des Marnes Blanches
Tasting notes
Colour
The colour reveals a beautiful golden hue, enhanced by delicate green and amber highlights.
Nose
The nose opens with delicious notes of almond and yellow fruit, evoking fresh apple and candied lemon. It then evolves toward touches of citrus, spice and subtle herbal and menthol nuances.
Palate
The attack is lively and refined. The palate stands out with a vibrant acidity and a very distinct chalky minerality. It offers superb tension and great precision, extending into a long, vigorous and spicy finish.
Food and wine pairing
This white wine pairs wonderfully with white meats in sauce, such as creamed poultry, as well as with freshwater fish, raw seafood or ceviche. It will also enhance regional cheeses such as young Comté or fresh Tomme, as well as mushroom risottos.
Service and storage
For optimal enjoyment, it is recommended to serve the Savagnin "En Quatre Vis" 2024 at a temperature between 11 and 13°C. This wine can be enjoyed young for its freshness, but has a solid structure allowing it to age favourably until around 2034.
Other characteristics
This dry white wine is bottled without any prior fining or filtration, thus preserving its full texture and natural complexity.
The pure and mineral expression of a great white wine from the Jura
The estate
Founded in 2006 by Pauline and Géraud Fromont, the Domaine des Marnes Blanches quickly established itself as an essential reference in the Jura, France. Located in the Sud Revermont, the estate now spans about ten hectares spread across several villages. Still at the helm of the domaine, the winemaking couple cultivates their vines using organic farming with a minimalist philosophy and a deep respect for the environment. The domaine takes its name from the distinctive soils of its very first plot, acquired in Cesancey, yielding cuvées of great authenticity.
The vineyard
Produced under the Côtes du Jura appellation, this wine comes from old vines planted in 1958 in the commune of Cesancey. Rising to about 300 metres in altitude and benefiting from a south-west exposure, this historic plot rests on a unique terroir composed of white marl covered by a layer of limestone. The vineyard is farmed according to organic principles, with manual soil work to preserve biodiversity.
The vintage
The year 2024 proved particularly challenging from a weather standpoint. After unusually warm months of February and March, late April was marked by devastating frost episodes. The growing cycle then had to contend with a very rainy May, which encouraged strong mildew pressure. Despite these extreme climatic conditions, which led to historically low yields, the vines' resilience made it possible to harvest berries of great purity.
Winemaking and aging
The grapes are harvested by hand at optimal ripeness. In the cellar, whole clusters undergo direct pressing. Fermentation starts naturally through indigenous yeasts. The Savagnin "En Quatre Vis" 2024 is then aged for ten months in egg-shaped vats. During this period, the wine is regularly topped up to protect it from oxidation, ensuring a clean and precise profile before bottling.
