The Elegance and Mineral Precision of a Great Beaune Wine
The Estate
The history of Domaine du Château de Meursault dates back to the 11th century in Burgundy. Originally a feudal estate, the property has stood the test of time to become a true benchmark in winemaking. Since its acquisition in 2012, the current owner, Olivier Halley, has brought new energy to the estate, supported by a talented technical team. With vineyards spanning numerous prestigious appellations, the estate today stands out for its strong environmental commitment, reflected in its organic farming certification and innovative agroforestry practices.
The Vineyard
The Trois Journaux plot covers just 0.49 hectares within the renowned climat of Grèves, in the Beaune appellation. Ideally exposed to the east, on the mid-slope, the vines thrive on a clay-limestone terroir that is particularly gravelly and sandy. This unique composition ensures optimal drainage and gives the grapes a strongly pronounced mineral character. All of this land is farmed according to organic principles, with the utmost respect for biodiversity.
The Vintage
2022 was marked by high summer temperatures and significant water stress in early summer. The heatwaves in August led to an early harvest, which began as early as the end of the month, in order to preserve all the freshness and balance of the berries.
Winemaking and Aging
The grapes are hand-harvested in small perforated crates before undergoing rigorous optical sorting. Fully destemmed, the berries undergo a cold pre-fermentation maceration of fifteen to eighteen days to gently extract the aromas. Alcoholic fermentation is short, followed by a total vatting time of sixteen to eighteen days favouring gentle pumping-over. Finally, the Beaune 1er Cru "Grèves Les Trois Journaux" 2022 is aged for sixteen to eighteen months in French oak barrels, of which 40% is new wood.
