Vertdevin

The wine has a pale ruby color. The nose is textured, indulgent, complex, and offers depth with freshness. There is a savory spicy profile (white pepper, nutmeg, licorice, even star anise), refreshing mentholated and resinous notes (peppermint, fresh pine needles, a hint of pine sap in the background, fresh tobacco), a fine floral bouquet (cornflower, lily, a touch of violet), delicate roasted nuances (toasty, a hint of smoke and coffee), all wrapped in juicy, fresh fruit (red cherry, strawberry, crushed raspberry, a hint of morello cherry, blackcurrant, and bird cherry). The palate is fruity, juicy, concentrated, and airy. It reveals flavors of morello cherry, tangy red cherry, raspberry, fresh strawberry, blackcurrant, and a faint tannic note of bird cherry, combined with hints of licorice, white pepper, nutmeg and cumin, aromatic herbs (dried mint, fresh peppermint, rosemary), a touch of pine needles, tobacco, as well as background smoke and toasted hazelnut. There are also delicate notes of cornflower and violet. The finish is persistent, tannic, and slightly bitter (on bird cherry and cocoa notes). The tannins are well-structured, firm and enveloping, with a medium grain, integrated into the fruit core. Lively, mouthwatering acidity and good length.

The vineyard

The Domaine du Château de Meursault oversees an exceptional vineyard in Burgundy, spread across 65 hectares, from Puligny-Montrachet to Aloxe-Corton.

The wine

The Premier Cru "Clos des Epenots" 2022 du Château de Meursault is a great Pommard wine that stems from 5 plots of vines planted between 1948 and 1978. The vineyard, facing east/south-west represents a total surface area of 3.6 hectares. Warm and well-drained, these soils located at the foot of a hillside on a slight slope, made up of red ferruginous and gravelly earth on ancient alluvium, which allows the grapes to ripen gradually.

Winemaking and ageing

The grapes were sorted by hand in order to keep only the best ones. A second optical sorting was carried out after destemming. The grapes were then vatted for 15 to 18 days. Pre-fermentation cold maceration then alcoholic fermentation accompanied by punching down and pumping over. The wine was aged for about 15 months in new barrels (30%) and in barrels of one to two wines (70%).

Blend

Pinot Noir (100%).
