An authentic Savennières white wine from Domaine Ogereau in the Loire

The Estate

Founded in the late 1890s in Anjou, Domaine Ogereau covers 24 hectares divided across about thirty plots in the Loire. This family estate is now run by Emmanuel Ogereau, representing the fifth generation. The domaine is distinguished by its mosaic of exceptional terroirs combining schist, windblown sands, and volcanic rock, and by its recent biodynamic certification. Specializing in the expression of Chenin Blanc and Cabernet Franc, it embodies the authenticity of the historic Anjou vineyard.

The Vineyard

This Savennières wine comes from the parcels of Clos Le Grand Beaupréau, Les Murailles, L'Aiglerie, and Les Mauriers, located on the slopes of the right bank of the Loire. The vineyard benefits from an ideal southwest exposure on soils composed of schist and windblown sands, with volcanic rock present in certain plots. The vines, from massal selection of century-old vines, are managed according to certified organic agriculture and biodynamic principles.

The Vintage

The 2023 vintage proved particularly demanding with episodes of spring frost and significant rainfall in spring and at harvest. These challenging conditions necessitated meticulous vineyard work and rigorous sorting, ultimately producing healthy grapes that achieved complete phenolic maturity. This vintage perfectly illustrates the terroir’s expression and constitutes a true "vigneron’s year".

Winemaking and Aging

Harvested by hand and sorted in multiple passes, the grapes of La Saponaire 2023 are gently whole-cluster pressed before a light settling. Fermentation and aging take place over 7 months following an original distribution: 40% in underground tiled sandstone tanks, 40% in 400-liter barrels, and 20% in amphorae. Malolactic fermentation occurs spontaneously and to completion.

Grape Variety

This Savennières wine is 100% Chenin.
