Description
Tasting characteristics and advice for the Pinot Noir 2023 from Domaine Vincent Pinard
Tasting
Appearance
The wine displays a bright ruby-red hue.
Nose
The nose reveals an intense aromatic profile dominated by red fruits. Floral notes of violet and peony mingle with aromas of wild cherry, raspberry coulis, white pepper and a subtle smoky touch.
Palate
The palate is supple and slender, offering a beautiful balance with tannins that are already well integrated. Discreet ageing brings a subtle roundness that enhances the fruit-driven expression. An outburst of red fruits provides a natural softness, while the wine’s depth allows it to evolve calmly over time.
Food and wine pairings
This Pinot Noir 2023 pairs perfectly with red meats such as game, veal and veal chops. It also matches well with poultry, notably tandoori chicken, pork tenderloin, as well as soft cheeses such as Camembert.
Serving and cellaring
Serve this Pinot Noir 2023 at a temperature between 15 and 17°C. This wine can be enjoyed now and will continue to evolve until around 2031.
A generous, fruit-forward Sancerre rouge from Domaine Vincent Pinard
The estate
The Domaine Vincent Pinard, based in Bué in the Sancerre area of the Loire Valley, traces its modern origins back to 1945, when Charles Pinard took over the family property and turned his focus to winegrowing. Vincent Pinard succeeded him in the early 1970s, giving his name to the estate. Today, his sons Florent and Clément Pinard run this 17-hectare family domaine. Described as the “Rolls-Royce of Sancerres” by the Revue du Vin de France, the estate is farmed organically and biodynamically, with a preference for hand-harvesting and low-intervention winemaking.
The vineyard
This Sancerre rouge comes from the Bué terroir, located between 250 and 270 meters above sea level. The Pinot Noir vines, averaging 35 years of age, are planted on clay-limestone soils over an Oxfordian and Kimmeridgian limestone subsoil. The vineyard has been farmed organically since 2004 and is 100% biodynamic. Planting density reaches 7,000 vines per hectare, with Guyot Poussard pruning. The soils are worked without herbicides, through ploughing and natural grass cover for certain plots. Yields are kept in check at 35 hectoliters per hectare, and the grapes are harvested by hand into perforated crates.
Vinification and ageing
The Pinot Noir 2023 is vinified in a non-interventionist manner with indigenous yeasts. No inputs are added except for a small amount of volcanic sulfur produced by the domaine, incorporated during blending. This Loire wine is neither fined nor filtered. Ageing takes place in non-new barrels for 15 to 17 months depending on the vintage, allowing the wine to develop complexity while preserving its fruit-forward expression.
Grape variety
This Sancerre rouge is 100% Pinot Noir.
