Description
The complexity and elegance of a fine wine from Saint-Émilion
The estate
Perched on the plateau of Saint-Émilion, Château Quintus has one of the oldest vineyards in the appellation. The Dragon de Quintus is the second wine of the château. Its name echoes the statue of the dragon that watches over the Saint-Émilion terroir.
The vineyard
The 28-hectare vineyard of Château Quintus is perched on a plateau southwest of Saint-Émilion.
The vintage
An early bud break on March 22, due to the warm winter, was followed by mid-flowering on May 27, a sign that the vine had returned to a classic vine cycle because of a cool spring. The very hot summer resulted in very consistent veraison. At Château Quintus, the 2019 vintage is surely one of the best produced to date.
The blend
Merlot (86%), cabernet franc (15%)
The tasting
The Dragon of Quintus 2019 displays in the glass a beautiful dark red colour. The first nose reveals intense and fresh fruit. The second not offers woody notes, which mingle with complex aromas of black fruit. On the palate, the Dragon of Quintus 2019 attacks with great elegance, then evolves great density. The fruit is at the core of the structure and texture of this fine wine.
