Description
The finesse and structure of a Charmes-Chambertin Grand Cru wine
The estate
Established since 1825 in Nuits-Saint-Georges, in the heart of the Côte de Nuits, the Faiveley family runs one of the most prestigious estates in Burgundy. Combining viticultural tradition and contemporary approach, the Domaine Faiveley produces very great wines expressing all the nobility of the Burgundian terroirs. The management of the vineyard is based on the principles of a reasoned viticulture, respectful of biodiversity. Thanks to a range of wines of great precision and remarkable balance, the estate stands out as a true reference in Burgundy.
The vineyard
Domaine Faiveley operates a vineyard of over 120 hectares spread between the Côte de Nuits, the Côte de Beaune and the Côte Chalonnaise. This exceptional heritage brings together magnificent plots classified as Grands Crus and Premiers Crus, where the great Burgundian grape varieties are fully expressed.
The wine
Coming from an exceptional terroir located in the municipality of Gevrey-Chambertin, this Charmes-Chambertin Grand Cru is produced from a 0.81 hectare plot, facing east, resting on shallow clay and limestone soils. The Charmes-Chambertin appellation extends over a total of about 30 hectares, but this cuvée stands out for the uniqueness of its origin.
Vinification and aging
The grapes are hand-picked, then undergo a short pre-fermentation maceration. Fermentation takes place at low temperature for 15 to 18 days. The wine is then aged for 16 to 18 months in French oak barrels, a third of which are new, in the 19th century vaulted cellars of the estate.
Grape variety
100% pinot noir.
