The elegance and aromatic complexity of a Rasteau red wine
The estate
The modern history of Famille Perrin begins in 1909 with Pierre Tramier's acquisition of Château de Beaucastel. Located in the Rhône Valley, this iconic estate is now led by the fifth generation, represented notably by Jean-Pierre, François, Marc, Pierre, Thomas, and Matthieu. True pioneers, they adopted organic farming as early as 1950 and biodynamics in 1974. With around 300 hectares spread across several prestigious appellations, Famille Perrin stands as the largest landowner in the region, renowned for its environmental commitment and the excellence of its wines.
The vineyard
The cuvée comes from a leased two-hectare vineyard located within the Rasteau appellation. South-facing and sheltered from the mistral, the vines grow on old terraces made up of rolled pebbles on the surface, with sandy marl and clay beneath. These soils store daytime heat and release it at night, promoting optimal ripening of the grapes.
The vintage
2022 was marked by a particularly warm and dry winter and spring, ensuring excellent vine health. Record summer temperatures accelerated the growing cycle, bringing the harvest forward by around ten days. Some rainfall in September brought beneficial moisture, requiring careful sorting but resulting in grapes of exceptional quality.
Winemaking and aging
The grapes for L'Andéol 2022 are hand-harvested with meticulous berry-by-berry sorting. Fermentation, under controlled temperature, is split between whole clusters and destemmed grapes. Aging lasts 12 months before bottling, taking place 90% in stainless steel tanks and 10% in 450-liter French oak foudres, allowing the wine to complete its malolactic fermentation while preserving the brightness of the fruit.
Grape varieties
This wine is a blend of Grenache (95 to 98%) and Syrah.
