Description
Characteristics and tasting notes for the L'Andéol 2023 Famille Perrin
Tasting
Colour
The colour reveals a deep ruby red, both intense, brilliant and full of elegance.
Nose
Displaying a seductive complexity, the aromatic bouquet opens with notes of spice and black fruits, enhanced by a delicate touch of wild strawberry that brings a lovely sense of freshness.
Palate
Full-bodied and flavourful, the palate offers a power that is perfectly balanced by great freshness. The texture proves silky, supported by wonderfully fine tannins. The palate unfolds generous flavours of stewed black fruits and hints of garrigue, stretching towards a long, lingering finish.
Food and wine pairing
This red wine pairs wonderfully with herb-crusted venison shoulder or Picodon cheese matured in olive oil. More generally, it will ideally accompany hearty Mediterranean-inspired dishes, such as grilled lamb or dishes flavoured with herbes de Provence.
Service and storage
The L'Andéol 2023 can be enjoyed in its youth but also has the ageing potential to evolve in the cellar until around 2033.
The elegance and power of a red wine from Rasteau
The estate
The modern history of the Famille Perrin begins in 1909 with Pierre Tramier's acquisition of Château de Beaucastel. Located in the Rhône Valley, in France, this illustrious estate is now run by Jean-Pierre and François Perrin, alongside the fifth generation: Marc, Pierre, Thomas, Cécile, Charles, Matthieu and César. A pioneer of environmentally responsible winegrowing, the estate adopted organic farming as early as 1950, followed by biodynamics in 1974. A member of the prestigious Primum Familiae Vini network, the family oversees a 300-hectare vineyard, producing wines renowned worldwide for their authentic expression of terroir.
The vineyard
This wine comes from a leased two-hectare plot, ideally situated in the south of the Rasteau appellation. The south-facing vines benefit from natural protection against the mistral wind. The terroir consists of old stony terraces resting on sandy marls and Pliocene clays, offering optimal conditions for grape ripening while preserving a lovely minerality.
The vintage
The year began with a mild winter, followed by a dry spring. Summer proved particularly hot, with high temperatures in August and September. Despite a slight lack of rainfall, these climatic conditions proved ideal for achieving perfect berry ripeness. Harvest began in late August under radiant sunshine, allowing the fruit to be picked in impeccable health.
Winemaking and aging
True to biodynamic principles, the L'Andéol 2023 is vinified partly with whole bunches and partly with destemmed grapes. Fermentation takes place at controlled temperatures, with careful punching down and pumping over for gentle extraction. After malolactic fermentation, the wine undergoes a year of aging split between temperature-controlled stainless steel tanks (90%), to preserve the fruit, and large wooden foudres (10%), which bring a subtle complexity.
