Description
A fresh and aromatic Vieilles Vignes Grand Vin Bordeaux Blanc Sec
The estate
Château Suduiraut, a Sauternes Premier Cru Classé, has existed since the 16th century. This château, with gardens designed by Le Nôtre and 91 hectares of certified High Environmental Value vineyards, was taken over in 1992 by AXA Millésimes, which makes it a point of honour to preserve and promote the know-how and culture of Sauternes wines.
The vineyard
Château Suduiraut Vieilles Vignes 2022 is a Bordeaux dry white wine made from a meticulous selection of vineyards averaging 45 years of age.
The vintage
The winter was cold and relatively dry before milder conditions returned in February. On 1st and 2nd April, a major frost spell affected 40% of the vineyard. Flowering was rapid in May and June. In mid-June, the first heatwave was recorded, but the vineyards were affected by between 5% and 30% following thunderstorms accompanied by hail. The hot, dry summer was punctuated by occasional restorative rains in mid-August. Historically early, the dry white grape harvest began on 18 August. Despite low yields, the thick-skinned grapes, an expression of the sunny character of this vintage, were rich and concentrated.
Winemaking and ageing
The grapes are harvested by plot, according to the ripeness of each plot. Aged for 9 months in barrels (15% new and 85% one-wine barrels).
Blend
Semillon (55%)
Sauvignon Blanc (45%).
