The elegance and finesse of a great white wine from the Côte de Beaune
The estate
Founded in Beaune in 1880 by Joseph Drouhin, Maison Joseph Drouhin is a true institution in Burgundy. Today spanning nearly 100 hectares across the entire wine region, this historic house is renowned for its pioneering role in organic and biodynamic viticulture. Now run by the fourth generation of the family, with Frédéric Drouhin as president alongside Philippe, Véronique and Laurent, the estate upholds a tradition of excellence. It is distinguished by its constant pursuit of the authentic expression of Burgundian terroirs, while extending its reach as far as Oregon.
The vineyard
Located in the south of the Côte de Beaune, the village of Chassagne-Montrachet is one of the cornerstones of the famous “Côte des Blancs”. The vines dedicated to this cuvée thrive on gently sloping hillsides that enjoy excellent exposure. The terroir is made up of a complex mosaic of limestone marl, yellow and red clay, and gravel. The house sources its grapes from rigorously selected partner growers who follow strict specifications requiring high planting densities and viticultural practices that respect both the environment and the soil.
Winemaking and ageing
To craft this Chassagne-Montrachet Village 2024, the grapes are harvested by hand into small perforated crates to preserve the integrity of the berries. The whole bunches then undergo slow pneumatic pressing, and only the finest juice is retained. After settling, the musts are transferred directly into French oak barrels (around 20% new), sourced from high-forest stands and seasoned for three years. Alcoholic and malolactic fermentations take place in these barrels, followed by meticulous ageing lasting 14 to 16 months.
Grape variety
100% Chardonnay.
