Description

Characteristics and tasting tips for Meursault Village 2024 by Joseph Drouhin

Tasting

Colour
The wine displays a lovely yellow hue, lit up by delicate golden highlights.

Nose
The aromatic bouquet opens with subtle notes of honey and white flowers, recalling linden blossom, hawthorn and chamomile. The whole is elegantly underscored by indulgent touches of brown butter.

Palate
On the palate, this white wine stands out for its velvety texture and silky roundness. The balance between the breadth of the fruit and its freshness is remarkable, extending into a long finish carried by flavours of yellow plum and gingerbread.

Food and wine pairing

This wine pairs beautifully with fine fish such as turbot or sea bass served with a cream sauce, as well as with roasted shellfish like scallops. It will also elevate white meats, roast veal and more contemporary dishes such as salmon tartare, ceviche and roasted root vegetables.

Serving and cellaring

To appreciate the full complexity of Meursault Village 2024, it is best served at a temperature of 12–13°C. While it already offers great drinking pleasure, this wine has fine ageing potential and can develop in the cellar until around 2034.

The elegance and precision of a great white wine from Meursault

The estate

Founded in Beaune in 1880, Maison Joseph Drouhin is an iconic name in Burgundy. Initially a négociant, the house began building its own estate in 1921. Today, the fourth generation, represented by the founder's great-grandchildren, including Frédéric, Véronique and Philippe, runs the property. At the helm of a 100-hectare vineyard, the family is distinguished by its pioneering commitment to the environment. The estate is recognised as the largest in the region to be farmed entirely according to organic and biodynamic principles, producing wines of great elegance.

The vineyard

Located in the heart of the Côte des Blancs, the Meursault terroir is characterised by soils of limestone and marl. The vines enjoy an east-south-east exposure on gentle slopes, which promotes even ripening. Farmed biodynamically, the vineyard boasts a high planting density of up to 12,500 vines per hectare. The soils are partly worked by horse, protected by natural grass cover and nourished with organic compost to preserve biodiversity. The grapes are harvested by hand into small perforated crates.

The vintage

The 2024 vintage faced demanding weather conditions that led to particularly low yields across the entire estate. This unusual growing season called for constant vigilance and extremely rigorous sorting at harvest, ensuring that only healthy berries were kept, for a vintage defined by precision.

Winemaking and ageing

The making of Meursault Village 2024 begins with a very gentle pressing of the bunches, followed by natural settling of the must by gravity. Fermentation starts spontaneously thanks to indigenous yeasts. The wine then undergoes meticulous ageing, divided between stainless steel tanks and oak barrels. The wood used for these barrels is first air-dried for three years, ensuring a subtle integration that respects the aromatic purity of the fruit.

Grape variety

This wine is made exclusively from Chardonnay (100%).
