The Structure and Finesse of a Second Wine from Pauillac
The Estate
Nestled in the heart of the Pauillac appellation on the left bank of Bordeaux, the Château Grand-Puy-Lacoste took its current form in 1855, although it was built as early as the 16th century. The winery was shaped by the tenure of Raymond Dupin from 1930 to 1978. He then sold the estate to the Borie family in 1978, who have carried out numerous renovations ever since. Château Grand-Puy-Lacoste is now one of the most representative crus of the Pauillac appellation.
Lacoste-Borie is the Second Wine of the estate.
The Vineyard
Lacoste-Borie is a Pauillac wine from a 90-hectare vineyard, 60 hectares of which are planted in one block. The vines, averaging 38 years old, are planted on deep gravel hills.
The Vintage
The 2024 vintage reflects the teams’ resilience in the face of atypical weather, marked by a mild winter and a hot, dry summer, conducive to excellent grape maturity. Despite some coulure and millerandage on Cabernet Sauvignon, yields were satisfactory (38 hl/ha) and quality was on point. Meticulous hand harvesting from September 25 to October 8 allowed for careful selection. Gentle vinifications revealed an elegant, flavorful and approachable wine, enhanced by measured barrel aging.
Winemaking and Aging
Aged in French oak barrels (30% new).
Blend
Cabernet Sauvignon (62%), Merlot (30%) and Cabernet Franc (8%).
