The estate

Adjacent to the vineyards of Château d'Yquem, Château Suduiraut is a 17th century property with gardens that were originally designed by André Le Nôtre. Château Suduiraut is a Sauternes Premier Cru classified in 1855 and has been owned by the AXA Millésimes group since 1992. At the estate, the elaboration of their famous golden wines is based on a strict and very precise plot selection. With a style and a signature that has only increased in value over the years, this fresh, light and delicious expression appeals to lovers of great white wines, whether sweet or dry.

The vineyard

Located in the heart of Sauternes, Château Suduiraut has a vast vineyard which extends over 91 hectares of HVE (High Environmental Value) certified vines. The soil is composed of sandy-clay gravel which allows the sun's warmth to be retained and thus allows the grapes to reach a superb level of ripeness. It is this precious terroir that gives the wines of Château Suduiraut all their opulence.

Lions de Suduiraut is a Bordeaux dry white wine made from a plot of Semillon and Sauvignon Blanc vines, on average of 20 years old, planted on fine sandy gravel.

The vintage

The rainy and cold winter conditions until February gave way to a mild spell that advanced budburst around 25 March. Although the frosts on April 1 and 2 affected 40% of the vineyard, the late pruned plots and those that had not yet budded were spared. The high temperatures from May onwards advanced an even and rapid growth cycle; 15 days ahead of 2021. June was hot, with rain and thunderstorms accompanied by hail affecting between 5 and 30% of the vineyard depending on the plot. Particularly hot and dry, the summer had rainy spells in mid-August which boosted ripening. Historically early, the dry white grape harvest began on 18 August.

Winemaking and ageing

Lions de Suduiraut 2022 was aged for 6 months, 50% in vats and 50% in barrels, of which 25% were new.

Tasting

Colour
The wine has a beautiful pale yellow colour.

Nose
The nose opens with white flower and citrus scents. During aeration, the bouquet becomes more complex, releasing delicious notes of passionfruit, while keeping a lovely minerality.

Palate
Full and refreshing, the attack makes way for a delicious and expressive palate. Scents of pink grapefruit, pear and grilled hazelnuts mix harmoniously until the lingering, fresh and saline finish.
