Description

Louis Latour crafts a rich and aromatic Burgundy Premier Cru white wine

The estate

The largest wine estate in Burgundy, Domaine Louis Latour boasts a winemaking history spanning over 200 years. Spread across the finest plots in Premier and Grand Crus from the Côte de Beaune to the Côte de Nuits, the estate's 50-hectare vineyard produces a range of wines from 130 appellations, each authentically and elegantly expressing the characteristics of its original terroir.

An illustrious Burgundian estate, Louis Latour has been actively committed to conscious and environmentally respectful viticulture since 1996.

The vineyard

The 2021 1er Cru "Goutte d'Or" is a Meursault wine from a plot located south of Volnay and Pommard in the Côte de Beaune. The vines, averaging 35 years old, are planted on stony marl and Jurassic limestone soils.

The wine

The favorite wine of Thomas Jefferson, the third president of the United States who visited Burgundy and its vineyards in 1787, bears the name of the "Goutte d'Or" plot from which it comes, referencing the quantity of flint in the soil, shaped like drops and golden in color.

The vintage

The year began with a cool, wet winter followed by an especially warm spring in late March and early April, encouraging early budburst. From April 5th to 8th, a cold snap down to -8°C severely impacted the vineyard. While weather conditions from June to early August increased disease pressure, flowering was even. The end of August, milder and drier, ensured optimal ripeness for the berries spared by frost.

Winemaking and aging

Traditional fermentation in oak barrels with complete malolactic fermentation. Aged 8 to 10 months in oak barrels (50% new).

Blend

Chardonnay (100%)
