The estate
Founded in Aloxe-Corton by Jean Latour in 1768, Maison Louis Latour has embodied the excellence of Burgundy wines for eleven generations. This independent estate owns 120 acres of vines, 67 of which are classified as Grand Cru, making it the largest owner of Grand Cru plots in Burgundy. Led by Florent Latour since 2022, the Maison is particularly renowned for its historic winery, begun in 1832 and completed in 1834, the first in France built specifically for winemaking.
The vineyard
The "Les Referts" climat lies at the foot of the slope between "Les Perrières" and "Les Charmes", enjoying an ideal south-easterly exposure. The Puligny-Montrachet vines, with an average age of 35 years, thrive on limestone and scree soils. Covering 216 hectares and bordered by Meursault to the north and Chassagne-Montrachet to the south, this appellation is world-renowned for producing some of the greatest Chardonnays, including the illustrious Montrachet, Chevalier-Montrachet and Bâtard-Montrachet. Hand harvesting ensures grapes of optimal quality, with a carefully controlled yield of 40 hectolitres per hectare.
Vinification and ageing
The Puligny-Montrachet 1er Cru "Les Referts" 2023 is vinified using a traditional method in oak barrels. Fermentation is accompanied by full malolactic fermentation. The wine is then aged for 8 to 10 months in medium-toast French oak barrels from Tonnellerie Louis Latour, 50% of them new, bringing structure and complexity while preserving the expression of the terroir.
Grape variety
This Premier Cru from Burgundy is made exclusively from Chardonnay, the emblematic grape variety of the Côte de Beaune.
