Expression and refinement of a Bourgogne red wine combining structure and finesse
The estate
Founded in 1797 by Jean Latour, the Maison Louis Latour has upheld ancestral know-how for over two centuries. Owning 33 hectares of exceptional vineyards in Bourgogne, including Grands Crus at Corton, the Latour family continues to manage this historic house. Their unique cooper’s expertise gives them exceptional mastery of aging, since their establishment on rue des Tonnelliers in 1867.
The vineyard
The village of Volnay occupies a privileged position on a promontory overlooking the Burgundian plain, near Pommard. The vines, averaging 30 years of age, flourish on clay-limestone soils, benefiting from exceptional terroir. Manual harvesting and controlled yields of 40 hl/ha ensure optimal grape quality.
Winemaking and aging
Traditional vinification in open vats, followed by a complete malolactic fermentation. Aging takes place over 10 to 12 months in French oak barrels from the Louis Latour cooperage, with 15% new wood and medium toast, thus preserving the pure expression of the terroir.
Grape variety
This wine is made exclusively from Pinot Noir, the emblematic grape variety of Bourgogne, which here reveals all its characteristic finesse and elegance of the Volnay appellation.
