Characteristics and tasting advice for Lucien Crochet's Chêne Marchand 2020

Tasting

This cuvée harmoniously combines richness with a chalky minerality.

Food and wine pairings

Fish such as sole, turbot or even John Dory are excellent choices to pair with this wine.

The generosity and precision of a Loire white wine

The estate

Born from the merger of André Crochet and Lucien Picard's farms, the Lucien Crochet estate has gradually developed to reach its current size of 38 hectares in the Sancerre appellation. The vineyard mainly extends over the village of Bué, but also in Sancerre, Crézancy and Vinon. If 29 hectares are planted with sauvignon blanc, 9 are planted with pinot noir on these Loire terroirs.

The vineyard

Lucien Crochet's Chêne Marchand 2020 is a Sancerre wine made from a blend of several plots with multiple exposures (south, south-east, south-west) planted on the place called "Le Chêne Marchand" on the mid-slope, between 240 to 260 meters altitude in the village of Bué. The shallow and well-drained soils rest on a limestone terroir from the upper Oxfordian, called caillottes.

Vinification and ageing

Hand-harvested, the grapes are then pressed in whole bunches. After a cold settling for about 36 hours, the juice is fermented in stainless steel tanks and demi-muids. This white Sancerre wine is then aged on total lees for several months before being racked and blended. Additional ageing on fine lees for a few months before filtration and bottling.

Blend

Sauvignon blanc (100%).
