Established since 1808 in Tain-L'Hermitage, M. Chapoutier today embodies the elite of Rhône Valley wines.
Winemaker and wine merchant, Michel Chapoutier has successfully brought this family-owned business to the very top. The wines by Maison Chapoutier are renowned by the finest connoisseurs from all around the world for their refinement and high quality. A man of many talents, Michel Chapoutier holds the world record for 100/100 scores awarded by the American critic, Robert Parker. Mathilde, Michel Chapoutier's daughter, has taken over the running of this iconic house, which has over 350 hectares of vineyards in the most prestigious appellations of northern and southern Rhône Valley.
Over the vintages, M. Chapoutier has taken his skills into the vineyards of Alsace, Roussillon and Australia.
Produced since 2002, Domaine de Cambrien "La Pléiade" by M. Chapoutier is a wine from Heathcote, an appellation located in the heart of Victoria, Australia. The vineyard is planted on an exceptionally rare terroir, consisting of virgin red soil dating from the Cambrian era.
The result of a meeting between Michel and Corinne Chapoutier and Ron and Elva Laughton, this Australian wine "La Pléiade" is the culmination of an ambitious project. Passionate about biodynamic agriculture, they joined forces to make this land, situated on a clay fault, a true terroir with a unique signature.
Winemaking and ageing
The grapes are harvested by hand, gently destemmed and then vinified for 6 weeks in open concrete vats with the addition of indigenous yeasts. After a light pressing, the wine is aged in new French oak barrels for 12 months.
The wine is of a beautiful magenta colour.
The nose mingles fruity (little red fruit) and spice scents.
The palate entices with its elegance and power. Through the course of the tasting, it releases a rare minerality and precision.
Food and wine pairing
This Australian wine pairs perfectly with lamb or beef.
