Penfolds: iconic wines
Grange, a mythical wine
An emblem of Australian wine, Grange embodies the vision of its creator Max Schubert. Made primarily from Shiraz, this legendary wine combines power, complexity and longevity. A meticulous blend of the finest parcels from South Australia, it reveals intense aromas of dark fruits and spices, enhanced by ageing in American oak barrels.
Bin 707, the richness of Cabernet Sauvignon
Born in 1964, Bin 707 is only produced in exceptional vintages. With a deep purple hue, it offers aromas of blackcurrant, blackberry, cedar and mocha, magnified by 18 months in American oak barrels. Its dense and silky tannins make it a great wine for cellaring.
RWT Bin 798, the elegance of Barossa Valley
Made exclusively from Shiraz from the Barossa Valley, RWT ("Red Winemaking Trial") benefits from ageing in French oak barrels bringing vanilla and toasted bread. The palate reveals dark fruits, fine chocolate and oriental spices in a full-bodied and harmonious ensemble.
Saint Henri, timeless finesse
An emblem of the House since 1890, this Shiraz matures in large neutral foudres, favouring the expression of the fruit. Silky texture, red and dark fruits, notes of violet and spices: approachable when young, it possesses remarkable ageing potential.
Bin 169 Coonawarra, a contemporary expression
Reserved for exceptional vintages, this Cabernet Sauvignon matures in French oak barrels. Its vibrant bouquet combines pure dark fruit, blackcurrant, cherry, fine spices and tobacco. On the palate, power and freshness find beautiful balance thanks to silky tannins.
Yattarna, an exceptional Australian Chardonnay
From high-altitude vineyards in the coolest terroirs, Yattarna captivates with its crystalline freshness and mineral elegance. Candied citrus, roasted hazelnut and floral notes marry with the structure brought by ageing in French oak barrels. An exceptional wine with remarkable cellaring potential.
From England to Australia: the birth of a legend
In 1844, Dr Christopher Rawson Penfold and his wife Mary left England for Australia, planting their first vines at Magill Estate near Adelaide. After Christopher's death, Mary took over the estate, bringing it to the rank of leading producer in South Australia. The 1950s marked a turning point with the creation of the legendary Grange by Max Schubert, combining Bordeaux techniques with the power of Australian grape varieties. Today, Penfolds stands as a global reference, combining innovation with ancestral expertise.
The Penfolds signature: the art of blending
Penfolds' emblematic grape varieties are built primarily around Syrah (called "Shiraz" in Australia), Cabernet Sauvignon and Chardonnay. Its unique signature rests on the art of multi-regional and multi-varietal blending, drawing from Australia's finest appellations such as Barossa Valley, McLaren Vale and Coonawarra.
Penfolds' winemaking approach combines terroirs and grape varieties from various Australian regions according to a three-fold philosophy: single-parcel wines, wines from a single region or sub-region, and wines blending several origins and varieties. This approach allows Penfolds to achieve a true feat: maintaining remarkably consistent quality and style over time.
