Tasting
With its vibrant purple hue, the wine opens with a nose of refined spices, deep black fruit and a discreet hint of oak. The structure offers a subtle, harmonious balance between fruit, acidity, oak and tannins.
A Great Hunter Valley Wine from Exceptional Terroirs
The Estate
With more than 160 years of history, the Tyrrell family has become a leading name in Australian winemaking. Owning 8 of the region's 11 oldest vineyards, it showcases a remarkable diversity of terroirs, including century-old plots. Bringing out the best in grape varieties such as Chardonnay, Shiraz (Syrah) and Sémillon, the estate enjoys unanimous acclaim from the most prestigious critics and the most discerning connoisseurs alike.
The Vineyard
These vines are at least 50 years old and grow on red clay soils over limestone. The Weinkeller and Short Flat plots make up the majority of the Vat 9 blend
Winemaking and Ageing
Hand-picked and sorted in the vineyard during the second week of February, the plots were vinified separately in open vats. Each wine was then aged, mainly in new 2,700-litre French oak foudres, until the Vat 9 blend was assembled in November 2021. The blend then underwent a further five months of maturation before bottling.
