The estate
Located in the Marche region in eastern Italy, the Umani Ronchi estate cultivates 210 hectares of vineyards under organic agriculture principles. This estate is known as being one of the biggest in the Verdicchio dei Castelli Jesi appellations.
The vineyard
This Plenio Riserva 2020 by Umani Ronchi is a Marche wine from a vineyard of 9 hectares. The vineyard is placed in the municipality of Cupramontana, on the right bank of the Esino River, between 250 and 350 metres of altitude. It is characterised by a very deep clay soil, not very fertile and therefore ideal for the production of quality wines.
The wine
This wine takes its name from the Latin word Plenum, "full," suggesting fullness, complexity and structure – all the qualities of this great Italian wine.
Winemaking and ageing
After gentle pressing, the first juice underwent static decanting. One part (60%) was then transferred to stainless steel vats for fermentation. The other part (40%) was transferred to oak barrels. 10-15% of the total volume of the wine underwent malolactic fermentation. The wine was initially aged for 12 months on the lees, followed by a further 6 months in the bottle.
