Description
Characteristics and Tasting Tips for the Volnay 1er cru "Les Pitures" 2024 by Vincent Girardin
Tasting
Colour
This wine reveals a vibrant ruby-red hue with subtle light garnet highlights, showing beautiful clarity.
Nose
The aromatic bouquet opens with delicate floral notes of violet, harmoniously blended with crisp red fruit aromas such as cherry and redcurrant.
Palate
The attack is remarkably fresh, giving way to an elegant, feminine texture supported by exceptionally fine tannins. The warm, persistent finish offers a lovely sense of fullness.
Food and Wine Pairing
This red wine pairs wonderfully with white meats and roast poultry, such as guinea fowl or free-range chicken served with mushrooms. It will also enhance lean red meats gently cooked, such as roast veal, or dishes with Asian influences lightly marinated in soy sauce.
Serving and Cellaring
To fully enjoy this vintage, it is recommended to serve it at a temperature between 15 and 16 °C, decanting it for about an hour while young. It will develop favourably in the cellar until around 2036.
The Authentic Expression of the Volnay Terroir by Maison Vincent Girardin
The Estate
Founded in 1980 by Vincent Girardin from two hectares of family vines, Maison Vincent Girardin is today an essential name in Burgundy, France. Based in Meursault, the estate has undergone a remarkable evolution, moving from a family domaine to a haute couture négociant business. Sold in 2012 to the Compagnie des Vins d'Autrefois, it is currently run by Monsieur Nié, with Éric Germain as technical director. The estate farms its vineyards biodynamically and relies on carefully selected sourcing to express the purity of the terroirs.
The Vineyard
The grapes behind this Volnay wine come from parcels located to the south-east of the village. The vines, with an average age of 65 years, thrive on soils made up of stony, iron-rich Bathonian limestone, resting on brown silt. The vineyard is managed according to strict principles of sustainable viticulture, including deep ploughing, the use of natural composts and high trellising, with no use of weedkillers or insecticides.
The Vintage
2024 is recognised as a very good vintage across the entire region. Generally favourable climatic conditions allowed the berries to reach full phenolic ripeness while retaining optimal acidity levels. These mild weather conditions favoured a healthy harvest, yielding concentrated, perfectly balanced grapes.
Winemaking and Ageing
The making of this wine is based on a minimalist, traditional approach. After hand harvesting and a rigorous double sorting, fermentation starts with indigenous yeasts. The wine is then aged on fine lees for an extended period in French oak barrels, with a very limited proportion of new oak in order to preserve the brightness of the fruit. All stages follow the lunar calendar.
Grape Variety
100% Pinot Noir.
