The estate
Once owned by Eugénie de Montijo, wife of Napoleon III and the last Empress of France, Viñedos Hermanos Hernáiz embodies an estate with a noble, passionate legacy. Since 1996, the estate has been in the hands of two brothers, Eduardo and Victor Hernáiz. They bring far more than their name to the property: they nurture it with their expertise, their family history, and also their ambition and shared dreams. In this way, they paint the colors, aromas, and flavors of wines that tell the story of a terroir—the family vineyards—through cuvées renowned for their elegance and minerality.
The vineyard
Finca la Emperatriz Viñedo Singular Blanco 2018 comes from century-old Viura vines grown on one of the highest plateaus of La Rioja Alta, at around 570 meters above sea level. This exceptional location gives the vineyard one of the coldest microclimates in the region. The soils stand out for their unique composition of pebbles, bringing a distinctive minerality to the wines. This singular parcel benefits from meticulous vineyard management, tailored to the specificities of these old vines and this high-altitude terroir.
The vintage
The 2018 vintage in Rioja offered favorable conditions for producing high-quality Spanish white wines, allowing century-old vines to fully express the unique character of this high-altitude terroir.
Winemaking and aging
The winemaking of Finca la Emperatriz Viñedo Singular Blanco 2018 favors an approach that respects both the fruit and the terroir. The grapes are vinified with care to preserve the expression of the variety and the typicity of this exceptional parcel. Aging allows the wine to develop complexity while retaining its natural freshness.
