The Elegance of a White Wine from the Southern Côte de Beaune by Domaine Albert Morot
The Estate
Created in 1820, the Albert Morot estate covers 8 hectares in certified organic farming since 2015, cultivating the most prestigious Premier Crus of Beaune in Burgundy. Recently acquired in 2023 by Guillaume and Sophie Poitrinal, the estate is now managed by Pierre-Jean Villa, an experienced winemaker from the Rhône Valley. Based at the Château de la Creusotte, he cultivates ten different appellations, including the emblematic monopole of the Clos de la Bataillère in Savigny-lès-Beaune Premier Cru.
The Vineyard
This "La Parcelle" cuvée comes from the southern Côte de Beaune in Bourgogne. The Chardonnay vines, around 40 years old, are planted on clay-limestone marl soils with an east-southeast exposure.
Winemaking and Aging
The harvest is carried out manually in small 15 kg crates with rigorous sorting in the vineyard and the cellar. After whole-cluster pressing and settling, fermentation takes place in 350 and 400 liter French oak barrels with indigenous yeasts. The aging of this Bourgogne Chardonnay 2024 takes place over 12 months in French oak barrels followed by 6 months in stainless steel tanks, with slow malolactic fermentation and bâtonnage if necessary. Bottling is done by gravity without fining or filtration.
Grape Variety
100% Chardonnay, the emblematic grape variety of Burgundy white wines that here reveals all its finesse and mineral expression.
