Description
Tasting notes and characteristics of the Barolo 2022 by Antinori - Prunotto
Tasting
Appearance
This wine reveals a beautiful garnet red colour, enhanced by brilliant ruby reflections.
Nose
Generous and remarkably complex, the aromatic bouquet opens with delicate notes of rose petals, accompanied by red fruits and subtle hints of spice.
Palate
Full-bodied and perfectly balanced, the palate offers tannins that are at once elegant, silky and smooth. The finish proves particularly rich and lingering.
Food and wine pairings
This red wine pairs wonderfully with red meats such as beef or lamb, as well as with slow-cooked dishes and game. It also enhances recipes featuring truffles or mushrooms, such as a risotto or pasta with ragù, and is the ideal companion for aged cheeses such as Parmesan, Gorgonzola or Pecorino.
Serving and cellaring
To fully appreciate this Barolo 2022, it is recommended to serve it at a temperature of 18°C. Endowed with great ageing potential, it can be enjoyed now or kept in the cellar until around 2032, or even beyond.
The elegance of a great Barolo from Piedmont by Antinori - Prunotto
The estate
Founded in 1904 as a cooperative, the estate took the name Alfredo Prunotto in 1923. Located in Alba, in the heart of Piedmont, this historic estate now extends over more than 71 hectares. A pioneer in the creation of single-vineyard cuvées as early as the 1960s, the estate has built an internationally renowned brand. Since 1994, the Marchesi Antinori family has been the sole owner of Antinori - Prunotto. Under the stewardship of these passionate owners, the estate continues its legacy by producing wines of exceptional quality, faithful to their terroir.
The vineyard
The vines used to produce this Barolo flourish in the Langhe region, on hillsides forming a natural amphitheatre. The historic plots, located at around 350 metres in altitude with a south to south-west exposure, lie on soils from the Tortonian era. These terroirs are mainly composed of silt, sand, clay and fossil-rich marl, offering ideal conditions for the optimal ripening of the grapes.
The vintage
The year 2022 was marked by an early cycle and unusual climatic conditions. After a mild, dry winter, the summer brought intense heat and prolonged drought. A few welcome rains in July and September allowed the vines to self-regulate. These conditions produced smaller bunches and berries, but in excellent health and with fine sugar concentration. Manual harvesting took place from 19 September to 3 October.
Vinification and ageing
After rigorous sorting, the grapes for this Barolo 2022 are destemmed and then crushed. Maceration lasts around eight days at a maximum temperature of 30°C. Malolactic fermentation is completed before the end of winter. Finally, the wine benefits from ageing of at least 18 months in oak barrels of various sizes, softening the tannins while preserving the expression of the fruit.
