Description
The creamy texture and richness of a Barbaresco
The estate
From the 1950s onwards, the Rocca family gradually acquired vineyard plots near the village of Barbaresco, in the Piedmont region. In 1978, Bruno Rocca, a former miner, decided to produce his own wines, with the ambition of crafting cuvées that express the richness and authenticity of this great terroir for Italian wines.
The vineyard
Bruno Rocca tends a 15-hectare vineyard.
The wine
This Barbaresco Currà 2019 by Bruno Rocca is a Piedmont wine from the Cru Currà vineyard in the village of Neive. The vines grow on clay-limestone soils composed notably of Sant’Agata marl and sandstone.
The vintage
A cold, rainy winter was followed by a spring that alternated between mild conditions and rainy spells, resulting in uneven vegetative growth from one plot to another. While June was particularly hot, July was marked by cool and especially wet conditions. Hot and dry, August gave way to a rainy September, although wide temperature swings between day and night ensured optimal ripening of the berries right up to harvest.
Vinification and ageing
Vinification takes place over 20 to 25 days in steel tanks. The wine is then aged in French oak barrels for around 12 months.
Blend
Nebbiolo (100%).
