Le Carillon d'Angelus 2022

Rich, complex, with a mix of warmth and ripe blackberry fruit, expansive, followed by a cool chalky edge, with sour cherries and floral notes—a fascinating blend of two terroirs; a fresh, spicy palate, very juicy, red-fruited, and despite 60% new oak not drying in any way, showing length, breed, and precision. High level.

Based on Merlot from the cool, clay-limestone terroirs of Saint-Christophe-des-Bardes, the 2022 Le Carillon d'Angélus offers up aromas of sweet berries, plums, orange zest, cigar wrapper and creamy new oak. Medium to full-bodied, velvety and layered, it's deep and dense, with lively acids, sweet tannins and a gently lactic finish.

Deep and heady aromatics of blackcurrants, plums, and liquorice, lifted by delicate floral notes. The palate is smooth, succulent, and juicy, rich in flavour complexity yet light in density. Gorgeous, ultra-fine tannins glide effortlessly, giving this a silky, mineral-driven expression. The interplay of salty cherries, crushed stones, and fresh mint makes for a joyful, moreish wine with energy and refinement. Hands-off in style but full of depth, this is a delicious and elegant second wine that drinks beautifully now. 60% new oak. pH 3.65

Dark ruby garnet, opaque core, purple reflections, subtle rim brightening. Floral, candied purple fruit, black cherries, some coconut, subtle hints of mint, some lime. Juicy, very elegant, finely extracted sweetness, ripe cherry fruit, mineral and long-lasting, savoury finish, some nougat on the back palate.

90% Merlot, 10% Cabernet Franc. 40 hl/ha. Playful red-berry bouquet, fresh morello cherry juice, light graphite, rosewood and graphite. On the elegant, juicy palate with a silky texture, balanced verve and medium body. In the focused, aromatic finish, a basket of red cherries, juniper, wax notes and supportive astringency.

Spiced sage, fennel and rosemary spice run through the damson, cherry pit and firm tannic grip. 60% new oak, the rest in stainless steel tank. Clay soils of Saint‑Émilion, harvest from September 8 to 29, 60% new oak.

A generous bouquet where the power of meaty notes mingles with a wave of freshly cut flowers, exuding their sap in an enchanting breath. The palate is sumptuous, with a cashmere-like texture, as graceful as a dancer on stage. The acidity, exquisitely lively, brightens the wine and carries it through to a subtle, persistent finish.

From the outset, the clays bring an evident fullness with shades of black berries, licorice, and peonies, delivering charm and freshness. Elegant and linear, the wine takes shape with confidence, seamless yet marked by character and ambition. It is precise, harmonious, vigorous, and exhilarating! So much beauty in a world of power.

The nose is elegant, precise, and gourmand, supple, with power and a lovely fleshy/pulpy fruit. It shows notes of pulpy blueberry, fleshy/pulpy blackberry and, more subtly, graphite, joined by fine roasted hints as well as touches of violet, fresh blond tobacco, and a discreet hint of sweet spices. The palate is fruity and offers juiciness, fleshiness, indulgence, a zesty backbone, a certain straightness, and flesh. It reveals notes of pulpy/juicy blackberry, juicy/tangy raspberry and, more slightly, pulpy/tangy small blue fruits, combined with floral touches, almost sappy/aniseed, as well as fine hints of chocolate and discreet touches of tonka bean. Lovely minerality, breadth and gourmandise, with an appealing textured feel on the palate. The tannins are supple, sapid and sappy. Sapidity and indulgence.

Aromas of fresh herbs, such as basil and lemongrass, come through here, together with blackberries, dark plums and some orange peel. Medium-bodied with medium, velvety tannins that provide layers and a polished texture. It’s long and creamy with lovely fruit at the end. A beautiful wine with a pretty structure, too. Drinkable now, but better after 2027.

Dark, purple color. Intense nose with pure, ripe fruit. Broad on the attack, supple mid-palate, highly aromatic; the wine develops juicy and deep, with no angular tannins, showing classy overall poise and depth on the finish. Good length. Blend: 90% merlot, 10% cabernet franc. Alcohol: 14.5% - pH: 3.6. Yield: 40 hl/ha.

This second wine is poised between structure and dense black fruits. It has a dark chocolate aroma with rich spice and black plum flavors. It is solid and worth aging further. Drink from 2028.
