Description
Characteristics and tasting tips for Hommage à Camille "Volibarts" 2023 by Louis Roederer
Tasting
Colour
This still wine reveals a bright, pale gold colour, a sign of great clarity and preserved freshness.
Nose
The nose is crystalline, driven by aromas of white flowers, citrus and pear, subtly enhanced by delicate brioche nuances derived from ageing.
Palate
The palate combines a crisp, saline acidity with a silky roundness, creating a taut balance between freshness and texture. The long, persistent finish ends on a pronounced mineral imprint.
Food and wine pairing
This white Coteaux Champenois pairs beautifully with a fine fennel and preserved lemon tart accented with aubergine caviar, a roasted sea bass fillet draped in a citrus beurre blanc sauce, or a wildflower honey panna cotta with bergamot zest. More broadly, it will highlight noble fish, shellfish and crustaceans, as well as delicate desserts with floral and honeyed notes.
A Coteaux Champenois by Louis Roederer, a saline reflection of the Volibarts terroir in Mesnil-sur-Oger
The estate
Founded in 1776 in Reims, Louis Roederer is one of the few great Champagne houses to have remained family-owned and independent. Its vineyard extends over 250 hectares, mainly classified as Premier and Grand Cru, spread across the Montagne de Reims, the Vallée de la Marne and the Côte des Blancs. Now led by Frédéric Rouzaud, the seventh generation at the helm of the house, Louis Roederer stands out for its precision viticulture, notable progress in biodynamics and a policy of single-plot cuvées, of which the "Hommage à Camille" Coteaux Champenois collection is a singular expression.
The vineyard
This Coteaux Champenois comes exclusively from the lieu-dit Les Volibarts, located in the cru of Mesnil-sur-Oger, in the heart of the Côte des Blancs. This chalky terroir, characteristic of the region, gives the grapes a particularly pronounced saline vivacity and aromatic purity. The plot is farmed organically, in keeping with the environmental approach adopted by the house across its entire estate.
Vinification and ageing
The grapes for the 2023 Coteaux Champenois are hand-harvested, then undergo partial skin maceration to extract aromatic and textural richness. Fermentation is spontaneous, relying on the terroir's indigenous yeasts, followed by a long ageing period that refines the texture and integrates the wine's aromas.
Grape variety
This wine is made from Chardonnay.
