Description

Characteristics and Tasting Notes of Louis Roederer's Hommage à Camille "Volibarts" 2022

Tasting

Appearance
Beautiful, bright golden yellow hue.

Nose
The nose captivates with its intensity and complexity, blending aromas of perfectly ripe mirabelle plum, suave white flowers such as honeysuckle, and delicate notes of roasted hazelnut. A subtle touch of honey rounds out this rich profile, elegantly extended by mineral hints of wet chalk. As it opens up, the aromatic profile gains power, revealing notes reminiscent of harvest and baked apple.

Palate
The palate opens with juicy sweetness, immediately balanced by a sensation of saline, slightly austere freshness. This mineral tension brings length and structure to a generous, elegant, and deeply expressive ensemble.

The concentration and refinement of a Coteaux Champenois white wine

The estate

Founded in 1776 in Reims, Louis Roederer is a Champagne House that has remained family-owned and independent. After more than 200 years, the Champagne Louis Roederer House is still in the hands of the same family. Today, it is led by Frédéric Rouzaud, representing the seventh generation, and Louis Roederer embodies the excellence of Champagne wines worldwide through cuvées crafted like works of art.

The vineyard

With nearly 241 hectares of vines, Louis Roederer draws its strength from its extraordinary vineyard, composed exclusively of Grands and Premiers Crus in the Vallée de la Marne, the Montagne de Reims, and the Côte des Blancs. A true mosaic of terroirs, Louis Roederer's vineyard is divided into 410 parcels, reflecting the full diversity of soils in Champagne.

The wine

Produced in AOC Coteaux Champenois, the Hommage à Camille "Volibarts" cuvée by Louis Roederer celebrates the spirit of innovation and freedom of Camille Olry-Roederer, great-grandmother of Frédéric Rouzaud. This bold woman is among the most influential figures in the house's history.

From a plot of nearly 546 ares of old chardonnay vines, planted in 1997 in Mesnil-Sur-Oger, in the locality of Volibarts, this cuvée reveals a different expression of the Champagne terroir and showcases another facet of the unique winemaking expertise of this family estate.

The vintage

2022 was marked by exceptional sunshine, with a record July and several episodes of intense heat. Despite an overall impression of drought, a few storms in June and welcome rains in mid-August allowed the vines to avoid suffering from lack of water, ensuring remarkable grape ripening.

Winemaking and aging

Skin maceration for one-third of the harvest. Spontaneous fermentation is followed by 16 months of aging on lees in stoneware vats (44%), new barrels (42%), and once-used barrels (14%).

Grape variety

Chardonnay (100%).
