Description

Characteristics and tasting advice for Château Beauséjour Héritiers Duffau-Lagarrosse 2005

Tasting

Appearance

The wine displays a deep ruby-red hue with purple highlights, reflecting the concentration and maturity of the vintage.

Nose

The bouquet reveals remarkable aromatic complexity, with notes of blueberry liqueur and spring flowers. Aromas of melted licorice and crushed stone bring a distinctive mineral dimension, complemented by touches of raspberry and cedar that gradually unfold with aeration.

Palate

On the palate, this wine charms with its balance between a pronounced tannic structure and lively freshness. The palate reveals a velvety, silky texture, with beautiful depth of dark fruit and a persistent finish with complex aromas. The tannic framework, clearly present, has gradually refined over time to offer today a harmonious, polished expression.

Food and wine pairings

This wine is an ideal match for a grilled beef rib steak, duck breast with fruit, or game in sauce. It also pairs very well with mushroom-based dishes, notably porcini or black truffles, as well as with aged hard cheeses.

Serving and cellaring

Château Beauséjour 2005 can be enjoyed now and will continue to evolve through around 2035. It is recommended to decant it one to two hours before serving and to serve it at a temperature between 16 and 18°C to fully appreciate its aromatic complexity.

A Premier Grand Cru Classé from Saint-Émilion with an elegant, mineral character

The estate

A family-owned property since 1847, Château Beauséjour Héritiers Duffau-Lagarrosse is a Premier Grand Cru Classé, located on the limestone plateau of Saint-Émilion, at the foot of the Saint-Martin de Mazerat church. The vineyard spans approximately 6.75 to 6.8 hectares, including 6.20 hectares in production, on clay-limestone soils and limestone with asterias, with vines around 45 years old. Since April 2021, the estate has been owned by Joséphine Duffau-Lagarrosse, in partnership with Prisca Courtin and the Courtin family of the Clarins group, and is run according to traditional practices, largely by hand.

The vineyard

Château Beauséjour’s vineyard enjoys a privileged location on the heights of the limestone plateau of Saint-Émilion. The parcels lie on clay-limestone and asterias limestone soils that give the wine its signature minerality and exceptional aging potential. The south and southwest exposure of the vines promotes optimal ripening of the grapes, while the high altitude of the terroir helps preserve the wine’s natural freshness.

The vintage

The 2005 vintage is considered exceptional in Bordeaux. Ideal weather conditions throughout the growing cycle made it possible to obtain perfectly ripe grapes. Flowering took place under optimal conditions, followed by a favorable summer with balanced temperatures and rainfall. The harvest was carried out in three successive passes, enabling the grapes to be picked at optimal ripeness in sunny weather.

Winemaking and aging

Château Beauséjour 2005 was crafted using traditional methods with deliberately limited yields. Parcel-by-parcel vinification was followed by aging in French oak barrels, allowing the wine to develop its aromatic complexity while preserving the expression of the terroir.
